Yesterday, 9to5Mac reported on interesting details found in the code of the unreleased iOS 14 operating system. It is not yet clear whether all the features mentioned are directly related to the iOS 14 operating system.

Fitness app

One of the features 9to5Mac editors spotted in the iOS 14 code is a fitness app codenamed "Seymour." It is possible that it will be called Fit or Fitness at the time of its release, and it will probably be a separate app that will be released together with the operating systems iOS 14, watchOS 7 and tvOS 14. It will probably not be a direct replacement for the existing native Activity app, but rather, a platform that allows users to download fitness videos, workouts, and activities that they can watch on their Apple Watch.

Handwriting recognition for Apple Pencil

An API called PencilKit was also found in the code of the iOS 14 operating system, which allows the Apple Pencil to be used in multiple situations. It looks like the Apple Pencil will make it possible to manually enter text into standard text fields in messaging apps, Mail, Calendar, and other places where it wasn't possible until now. Third-party developers will probably also get the possibility to introduce handwriting recognition support thanks to the mentioned API.

The iOS 14 operating system could look like this:

More news

The native Messages application, i.e. iMessage, could also receive new functions in the iOS 14 operating system. Apple is said to be currently testing features such as the ability to tag contacts with the "@" sign, cancel sending messages, update status, or even mark a message as unread. However, these functions may never see the light of day. News about the possibility of assigning location tags to selected objects, which will then be able to be searched using an iOS or iPadOS device, have also become clearer. The pendants will probably be called AirTag, and the energy supply will be provided by CR2032 type round batteries. In addition to these news, the 9to5Mac server also mentions new functions for the watchOS 7 operating system, improved mouse support in the iPadOS operating system or hints of new headphones from Apple.
