Apple has released iOS 15.2, which brings privacy improvements, a digital legacy feature, macro photography controls can be enabled in Settings on iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, expanded maps are available for supported cities in the Maps app, and it doesn't bring new emoticons. Not really, there simply aren't any added in iOS 15.2 or other new systems.

As part of the autumn operating systems, Apple regularly brought a new load of new emoticons, but this year is different. The latest emoji character set, Emoji 14.0, was approved on September 14, 2021, which was just less than a week before iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 were released. Logically, there was no time to get any new emoji into these systems. But now it's half way through December, the second tenth update and the new emoticons are nowhere to be found.

emoticons

We were supposed to see 37 new emojis, with ten of them having a total of 50 more skin tones in addition to the standard yellow. One already existing emoticon, i.e. handshake, then gets another 25 different combinations of its variants. The last major release of emoticons to Apple devices came in iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 already on April 26, 2021, and brought a total of 226 new emoticons, updates and skin tone variations.

Apple can't keep up

So we have to wait for a pregnant man or a melting face. After each specification is approved, the given emoji can be used by different manufacturers in their systems, changing their appearance slightly to match their set. At the same time, Apple was usually the first of all major companies to integrate new forms. But this year is different.

But why, we can only argue. The most probable seems to be work on the very functions of the system, with which he had a slip from the beginning. We are mainly referring to SharePlay, which only came with iOS 15.1, or linked contacts, which we only got with iOS 15.2. The macro mode also caused some controversy. It was first provided by iOS 15, in iOS 15.1 a switch was added in the camera settings, and in iOS 15.2 it was integrated directly into the application.

So Apple is clearly busy and simply doesn't have time to pay attention to such little things as emojis. And it's quite a pity, because with their help people express themselves more and more often in the digital world. It is true, however, that the most used ones are still the same, and it is very difficult for new ones to get into these rankings. Although, given the trend of recent years, one would guess that the heart emoji could be quite popular.
