Fortune on the possibility that analytics firm Strategy Analytics is on Samsung's payroll:

The objectivity of the market research on which these reports were based—market research that was often cited in the technology press—is now being called into question. Twice in the last week Daniel Eran Dilger z AppleInsider published a detailed analysis of Strategy Analytics data that strongly suggested a bias in favor of Samsung

  • At first, the report that Samsung had dethroned Apple in mobile market earnings was disputed.
  • The other accused Strategy Analytics of "rewriting history". Analysts tried to prove that the iPad's share of the tablet market had shrunk to 28,3%.

The second report is particularly telling, as Strategy Analytics appears to have inflated their previous estimate of Android tablet sales by more than 11 million units.

There is something rotten in the South Korean state. Among other things, Strategy Analytics shares the same building in Seoul for its headquarters with Samsung. It's probably hard to prove whether the news was manipulated on Samsung's order, but analysts seem to be at least biased against Apple. Hopefully, from now on, no one will take this company seriously or cite them. Bias has nothing to do with analysis. Once again, it turns out that the claims of (self-proclaimed) analysts have little weight.
