Already tomorrow we will know the form of the new Apple Watch Pro. It is extremely likely that after that volley of leaks, they will actually happen. They should have a flat display and a covered crown with a side button, with one more on the other side. However, after the publication of the possible appearance, they aroused a strong controversy. He just doesn't like it.

Although their design refers to a classic model, they have certain elements that may not appeal to everyone. Information was already circulating last year about how the Apple Watch Series 7 will get a flat display and sharper cut features. Maybe Series 8 will get this look, when the Pro model will also be based on it with certain changes in design. There aren't that many voices against it, because we actually wanted this design ourselves, but what about the exit at the crown?

Inspiration from classic watches

In the watch industry, it is not unusual for various manufacturers to protect the crown with a case in some way. Of course, there is no button here, unless we are talking about chronometers, and no other crowns either. The crown itself contains an axis that leads into the bowels of the watch, and if you hit it with it, it can deviate and make it impossible or at least worsen the comfort of its use.

The most common way is just a decent exit at the case, which is used especially with divers. Even the world's most popular watch, the Rolex Submariner, has them. However, the Italian company Panerai goes even further and, after all, based its form factor on this. The crown of its models is covered by a special mechanism.

It's about resilience

The output itself may not look attractive at first, but if the Apple Watch Pro is to be a durable watch, this is useful and convenient. If it is to prevent damage, it is to the benefit of the cause. This larger design will also aid in more comfortable handling. In addition, Apple will clearly differentiate the looks of its series, which is also quite important.

If you look at Casio's durable G-SHOCK series, it is also a very popular and original design, but it is really wild compared to the Apple Watch. At the same time, it is one of the most durable watches, precisely because of the design of its case. So the attacks towards Apple are not right there, and personally I wouldn't be afraid of an even bigger wilderness.

But what will the materials be?

Whatever the Apple Watch Pro looks like, I sincerely hope that Apple ditches the premium materials for their cases. Samsung bet on titanium in its Galaxy Watch5 Pro model. This watch is nice and really durable, but is it necessary? It isn't. A sporty and durable watch shouldn't pretend to be something it's not. To waste such noble materials simply seems completely unnecessary to me, especially when there is the potential for such a watch to be properly stressed by the surrounding environment. Of course plastic is out of place, but what about resin with carbon fiber like Casio or Garmins?

But Apple may have an advantage in this. Samsung presents the Galaxy Watch5 Pro as durable, but of course they are also intended for regular use. Instead, the American company can clearly place the Pro model in the position of a purely sports tool, i.e. with "lightweight" materials and precisely the Series 8 as the one intended for everyday wear - polished in design and, if anything, in aluminum and steel.
