Apple experienced unprecedented success. The picture from his Apple TV+ platform won three Oscars, including the most valuable one. But does it have any impact on his Apple TV smart box? This is also primarily about providing content. But its concept is perhaps already somewhat outdated and it would not be out of place to innovate it a little.

The Apple TV+ production received an Oscar in the Best Film category in its second year of existence. At the same time, it succeeded in front of established platforms such as Netflix and HBO Max or Disney+. The Apple TV device itself has a very similar name, but its concept is not intended only for watching video content. We have Apple Arcade here, the ability to install and use applications on the TV, etc. However, its concept is perhaps a bit outdated.

It is true that only last year we saw the news in the form of Apple TV 4K, which visually looks like the Apple TV HD from 2015, but it brought a few small innovations, including an "improved" controller. But it also has many limitations, which are related to the need to connect it to the network and connect it to the TV via an HDMI cable.

Stream games

Its advantages are still here. It still connects your TV to the Apple ecosystem, still functions as a home center, or still finds application in combination with projectors. But now try to minimize this black box with its functions so that it is perhaps a slightly larger USB disk that you would connect to a USB TV or projector. You wouldn't need a single cable and could carry it with you all the time.

That we already have such a solution here? Yes, this is, for example, Google's Chromecast. And that this is a good direction is also indicated by Microsoft's effort to go in a similar direction and stream games from its Xcloud to stupid televisions in this way. Nowadays, we no longer need the most powerful machines to run even the most demanding AAA games, a good internet connection is enough.

Vicious circle

Apple has the experience, it has the capabilities, it just lacks the will. Apple TV is still a relatively expensive device, the HD version with 32GB of internal storage costs CZK 4, the 190K version starts at CZK 4, and the 4GB version will cost you CZK 990. You must also have an HDMI cable. Apple doesn't have to go with the feature of extreme lightening, it could simply bring an alternative that would also be significantly cheaper. In addition, with a simple step, he would catch even more users in his waters. So it would be a typical win win. Even the controller wouldn't be needed when we have iPhones and iPads, which would be another financial saving.

But it has one small blemish on its beauty. Apple probably won't want to copy already captured devices, so it probably wouldn't be possible to present just such a solution. Personally, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he actually launched such a minimalistic device, but rather with some kind of Wi-Fi connectivity, so all the stupid TVs would be out of the game anyway.

And we probably wouldn't enjoy the game stream anyway. Apple is still fighting it tooth and nail. This is also because of its offline Apple Arcade platform. Therefore, he would first have to change the meaning of content distribution through this platform in order to move forward. But he would have to open it up to others as well, so as not to be accused of a monopoly. And he won't like that, so we'll have to give up anyway. It's just a vicious circle from which there is no way out.
