I never believed that an ordinary portable speaker works as an icebreaker, literally. I brought the flagship loudspeaker from the JBL company to the cottage, and I would never have thought that the decades-old cottage in Orlické hory would shake its foundations for the first time. Jbl xtreme however, he was able to do that and break the ice across all age categories.

The two-pound speaker, which is definitely no slouch, played everything during the crazy night: from brass and country to classic eighties, nineties to harder rock and modern pop. JBL Xtreme is one of the top models of the renowned American manufacturer, and as an even more powerful successor to the popular Charge 2+, it can play practically any genre.

The portable JBL Xtreme is not only suitable for a home disco, but it will also play at a party by the pool or by the water in the summer. You connect it to your phone via Bluetooth, and thanks to Splashproof technology, you don't have to worry about placing it near water because it's waterproof. You can even wash it under running water if you need to because the body is made of nanofibers covered with textile. There are also two rubber feet below the speaker, which both hold it in place and absorb some resonances.

High performance

Jbl xtreme, as the name suggests, is also very powerful. Perfect sound quality is ensured by four speakers, two tweeters and two woofers. They are divided by frequency band so that you can achieve high-quality reproduction even at higher volumes. The Xtreme is perfect for loud listening. For bass there are side bass reflexes.

With the speaker, you don't even have to worry about running out of juice during the night party. The battery capacity is more than a respectable 10 mAH, so the JBL Xtreme lasts about fifteen hours on one charge. At maximum volume, you can get up to twelve hours, if you don't use the possibility to charge up to two other devices, such as iPhones, from which you play, while listening thanks to the pair of USB ports. Then, of course, the endurance goes down.

The USB ports, together with the AUX in connector and the power port, are elegantly hidden under the zipper on the side of the speaker, so water and dirt can't get there either. In case of discharge, you can recharge the JBL Xtreme in about 3,5 hours.

At the top there are rubberized and recessed buttons for volume control, play/pause, device on/off and device pairing via Bluetooth. Pairing is easy and with JBL Connect you can link multiple speakers together, so for example if you buy two JBL Xtreme you can use one for the left channel and the other for the right channel. You can then easily sound even larger spaces.

Up to three devices at once

Another advantage is that up to three devices can be connected to the JBL Xtreme via Bluetooth at the same time, so you and your friends can take turns in the role of DJs. Everyone can play a song of their choice.

In addition, you can play not only music, but also movies, for example, through the speaker. You can connect the JBL Extreme to your MacBook and enjoy high-quality sound output. Although the speaker has the nickname portable, but with a weight exceeding two kilograms, it is not primarily intended for travel. It is much better to place it in some convenient place and let it lie down and do its job.

The JBL Xtreme is very cool in terms of design, borrowing the look of the popular Charge 2+, and pleasant to the touch. The buttons literally invite touch, and every time I played I had to restrain myself from resting my thumb on the volume up button. Maximum performance is what JBL excels at with the Xtreme model.

Compared to other portable speakers from JBL, the Xtreme clearly ranks among the top. There's also the price involved, but if you're an avid listener, it probably won't be for you 7 crowns pose a bigger problem. Additionally, you can choose from three color options – black, blue and red.
