The year 2021 is slowly behind us, and there is therefore more and more discussion among apple growers about the arrival of new products. In 2022, we should see several interesting new products, with the main product of course being the iPhone 14. But we certainly shouldn't forget the other pieces either. Recently, there has been more and more talk about the new MacBook Air, which should apparently receive a number of interesting changes. But let's put leaks and speculations aside this time and let's take a look at the gadgets we'd like to see from the new laptop.

A new generation of chip

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest innovations will be the deployment of a new generation Apple Silicon chip, probably with the designation M2. With this step, Apple will once again advance the possibilities of its cheapest laptop by several levels, when specifically there will be not only an increase in performance, but at the same time it could also improve economy. After all, what the M1 currently offers could come in a slightly more sophisticated form.

But what the chip will specifically offer is difficult to estimate in advance. At the same time, it will not even play such an important role for the target group for this device. As Apple targets its Air primarily at regular users who (most often) engage in traditional office work, it will be more than enough for them if everything simply runs as it should. And this is exactly what the M2 chip can do with excellence without the slightest doubt.

Better display

The current generation of MacBook Air with M1 from 2020 offers a relatively respectable display, which is certainly more than sufficient for the target group. But why settle for just something like that? For the editors of Jablíčkář, we would therefore be extremely happy to see if Apple bet on the same innovation that it incorporated into the expected 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros this year. We are specifically talking about the deployment of a display with Mini-LED backlighting, which the Cupertino giant has proven not only with the aforementioned "Pros", but also with the 12,9″ iPad Pro (2021).

Deploying this innovation would move image quality several steps forward. It is precisely in terms of quality that Mini-LED inconspicuously approaches OLED panels, but does not suffer from the famous burning of pixels or a shorter lifespan. At the same time, it is a less expensive option. But whether Apple will introduce something similar to its cheapest laptop is, of course, unclear for the time being. Some speculations mention this possibility, but we will have to wait until the performance for more detailed information.

Return of ports

Even in the case of further news, we will be based on the aforementioned 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros. This year, Apple significantly changed the appearance of these laptops, when it redesigned their body, while at the same time returning some ports to them, thus ironing out its earlier misstep. When he introduced Apple laptops with a new body in 2016, he literally shocked most people. Although Macs were thinner, they only offered universal USB-C, which required users to purchase the appropriate hubs and adapters. Of course, the MacBook Air did not escape this either, which currently only offers two USB-C/Thunderbolt connectors.

Preliminarily, it can be expected that the Air will not have the same ports as the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro. Even so, some of them could arrive even in this case, when we specifically mean the MagSafe 3 power connector. This is one of the most popular ports ever, whose connector is connected using magnets and thus offers an extremely comfortable and safe way to charge devices . Whether it will also include an SD card reader or an HDMI connector is rather unlikely, as the target group does not need these ports more or less.

Full HD camera

If Apple faces justified criticism in the case of its laptops, it is clearly for the completely outdated FaceTime HD camera. It only works in 720p resolution, which is woefully low for 2021. Although Apple tried to improve this problem through the capabilities of the Apple Silicon chip, it is of course clear that even the best chip will not dramatically improve such a hardware deficiency. Again following the example of the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro, the Cupertino giant could also bet on a FaceTime camera with Full HD resolution, i.e. 1920 x 1080 pixels, in the case of the next generation MacBook Air.

Design

The last item on our list is design. For years, the MacBook Air has kept one form with a thinner base, which made it very easy to distinguish the device from other models, or from the Pro series. But now opinions are beginning to appear that it is high time for a change. In addition, according to leaks, the Air could take the form of the previous 13″ Pro models. But it doesn't end there. There is also information that, following the example of the 24″ iMacs, the Air model could come in several color variants, as well as adopt white frames around the display. We would welcome a similar change in consideration. In the end, however, it's always just a matter of habit and we can always wave our hand over a possible design change.
