This November, Apple introduced the first three Apple computers with Apple Silicon processors, namely M1. Although at first glance it might seem that this is just a transition to other processors, in the end this decision is probably the most important in the last 15 years. Apple Silicon processors use a different architecture compared to those from Intel, so applications designed for Intel do not work on them. In addition, the ways in which you can work with available pre-boot tools, such as starting your Mac in safe mode, have also changed. So how to do it?

How to Boot Mac with M1 in Safe Mode

If you want to start your Mac in safe mode with the M1, it's not difficult. On an Intel-based macOS device, all I had to do was turn it off, turn it back on, and then hold the Shift key the whole time until safe mode started. For Macs with M1, proceed as follows:

  • First you need to your device they turned off. So click on  in the top left, and then on Turn off.
  • Once you've done that, wait for your Mac to shut down completely and display will remain black.
  • Now press the power button, eat it anyway don't let go and hold.
  • Hold the power button until it appears on the desktop options before starting (disk and gear icon).
  • Once these options are loaded, tap on boot disk your Mac or MacBook.
  • After marking the disk, hold down the key on the keyboard Shift.
  • An option will appear under the drive Continue in safe mode, which you tap.
  • The system will then start booting. Once loaded, it will appear in the top bar Safe mode.

This way you can easily enter safe mode on your Mac with M1. You must be wondering what safe mode can actually help you with and why you should use it. Safe mode is especially useful if your Mac can't start because of an application that prevents it from starting. After starting the system in safe mode, no applications are automatically launched and no unnecessary data and extensions are loaded. In addition, you can perform, for example, a disk rescue in safe mode. So, if you have installed an application and immediately after that the system cannot start, safe mode could help you.
