It's been exactly a week since the new iOS 12 was introduced at the opening keynote of the developer conference, which is currently only available to registered developers. If you have used our guide and installed the new system on your device, then maybe some of you are also looking for a way to possibly downgrade. That is why we have prepared a complete guide on how to go back to iOS 12 from iOS 11.

Back up your device before returning. A backup via iTunes is recommended. Just open iTunes on your Mac or Windows PC, connect your device via USB cable, click your device icon in the top left corner of iTunes, then click Back up. However, keep in mind that iOS 12 backup from iTunes will not be able to be restored on iOS 11 because the older version of the system does not support backups from the newer version. Despite this, a backup will come in handy in case of problems. You can also make a backup via iCloud, directly on your device v Settings -> iCloud -> Deposit and here click below on Back up.

No data loss

You won't lose data using this procedure, but it won't perform a clean install, which can cause system problems. You downgrade at your own risk, as there may be issues where, for example, not all apps you have installed on iOS 12 will be transferred. Before installing, you should turn on iCloud message backup v Settings -> [Your name] -> iCloud, because otherwise you will lose them when you go back to iOS 11.

  1. From here download iOS 11.4 for your device on PC/Mac
  2. If you don't have iTunes, then download them from these pages and install
  3. Turn off the feature on your iPhone Find iPhone (Settings –> [your name] –> iCloud)
  4. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with a USB cable to your PC or Mac
  5. In iTunes, click on device icon, which appears in the upper left corner
  6. Press and hold OTHER (on macOS) or SHIFT (on Windows) and click on Check for updates
  7. Find the downloaded iOS 11.4 file, click to mark it and select it Open
  8. By clicking on Update you start the system installation

After successful installation of the system, we recommend v Settings -> In general -> Profile delete the developer profile. If your device has already downloaded the iOS 12 update and is waiting for installation confirmation, then delete it in the In general -> Storage: iPhone. After deleting the profile (and possibly also the update), restart the device.

Clean installation

If you come back to iOS 11 using the following steps, then you will lose all your data. If you backed up your phone before you upgraded to iOS 12, you can restore your device from a backup during the clean iOS 11 setup. If you haven't, please back up any data you can before upgrading back to iOS 11 (contacts, calendars, etc.) to iCloud in the iPhone settings, and then downgrade. After installing the new system, just log in to iCloud and you have the mentioned data back. However, you will unfortunately lose applications that do not support synchronization via iCloud, and so will the data in them.
