Your Apple Music subscription is tied to your Apple ID, so you can stream content from any iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, or watchOS device that your Apple ID is signed in to. However, the situation gets a bit more complicated when you want to listen to Apple Music on another device that you use with a different Apple ID – for example, your work iPhone. Complicated, but certainly not impossible.

Many users have one Apple ID that they use for everything, but others may actually have multiple Apple IDs. This could be because they have a personal Apple ID and one for work, school or other occasions.

How to sign in to Apple Music on another device under your Apple ID

Technically, you can use one Apple ID to make purchases and sign up for Apple services like Apple Music and Apple TV+, and a second Apple ID to sync content and data between iCloud, such as messages, photos, notes, and backups. These two branches of the Apple ecosystem are completely different, but many people only need one set of credentials to sign in to both. To avoid this, you can use the Family Sharing feature, which allows one account to connect up to five other user accounts to subscriptions. The problem, of course, is that you're tied to someone else's Apple Music subscription. This will save you some money, but the account won't be yours alone. So using different Apple IDs comes in handy for sharing music between family members, as well as any of the other scenarios above. While it all sounds complicated, it's actually quite easy in practice – you just need to know where to sign in.

  • Head to Settings on that device, tap panel with Apple ID and in the section Media and shopping sign out of your existing Apple ID.
  • Then tap again Media & Shopping -> Not [XY]?.
Then sign in to the Apple ID under which you want to use Apple Music on the device in question.
  • If you have two-factor authentication enabled for that Apple ID, follow the on-screen instructions.

If this Apple ID is already signed in to Apple Music, you're all set. Just open the Apple Music app and start listening. If you're not already a subscriber, you'll be prompted to sign in when you open the Music app—you might even be eligible for a three-month free trial.
