Even in the fourth generation of iOS, Apple did not introduce any possibility to add tasks to the calendar or at least integrate them from third-party applications. Still, there is a way you can get tasks on your calendar, thanks to subscription calendars.
First of all, your to-do list needs to be able to sync with the Toodledo server. It is thanks to Toodledo that you can create a personal subscription calendar with your tasks. Fortunately, most popular GTD programs sync with this service.
- Log in to the site Toodledo. In the left panel, click on Tools & Services. Here we will be interested in the iCal window, click the Configure link.
- Check the box Enable Live iCal Link a let save changes. This allows you to share your task calendar. Note the few links below, specifically the one listed under Apple's iCal and iPhone. Through it, you can click to add the subscribed calendar directly to iCal/Outlook and copy it directly to the iPhone.
- On iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and choose to add an account. Select an option from accounts Other. Then click on Add subscribed calendar. You will see a Server field that needs to be filled out. Fill in that link from Toodledo and click next.
- There is no need to fill in or set anything on the next screen, you can just name your calendar according to your taste. Click on Done.
- Congratulations, you've just enabled displaying tasks in your calendar.
A small note at the end – Tasks cannot be edited or marked as completed from the calendar, this procedure is really only used to display them. In order to keep the individual tasks in the calendar up to date, you need to regularly synchronize your GTD application with Toodledo.
I personally use the Calengoo application instead of the native calendar, which can synchronize Google Calendar and Google tasks, which are displayed as an all-day event with the appropriate square to tick off (if you want to use it as a GTD, you need to create multiple task lists in Google tasks - Home, Work, Errands, etc.).
Otherwise, super instructions, I recommend using it with the Todo application from Appigo, which can already run in the background (so in theory it should also run instant synchronization - I haven't tested it). Jaibreakers will surely be pleased that it also has a plugin for Lockscreen, so it is possible to have tasks even on the locked screen, where it is also possible to check them off.
Please, I'm missing tasks in the native CAL application on the iPhone. How does Calengoo run on 3G and iOS4? It is possible for the task to set an alarm without the need to connect to the Internet. In the native CALendar, I set it up so that the task is recorded as an event with a date and time. Unfortunately, if I don't make it, I have to move the evening to the next day. I would need the unfulfilled ones to "flow" to me for the next day. Thanks for the information
and how to sync 2Do with Toodledo?
Sync – Setup – Sync Method: Toodledo and then fill in name and password
I've been using iCal for many years for tasks, even on the iPhone. It synchronizes via MobileMe and somehow I can't think of what more I should want. Instead of the place and time where I have to be, I just write down what and what time I have to do with a reminder and that's it. I have no idea what the difference is between what I'm describing and a special application for tasks.
Hello,
thank you very much for the great guide, I use the Toodledoo application and since I have JB due to Toggles and Lock Calendar, I can now see them on the lock screen :) Despite the fact that I also added it to Outlook through that link (unfortunately, toodledo sync me with Outlook sometimes it does crazy things, so I prefer ready only, but functional)..
When are you going to make Exchange Tasks available???!!! I can always call, cont and mail :-)
So before they want to do it, try iMExchange2 or something similar.
so I can use 2do straight away
And isn't it easier to download a program from the AppStore directly for tasks? There are dozens of them…
what about pocket informant? although it's a bit slower to solve (on my 3G it takes a while to synchronize all my google calendars and toodledo respect), it's really a complex management of toodledo respect. it is much more intuitive than their web interface and, in any case, it can do more than their iPhone application (through which the repeated task cannot be deleted - at least I didn't think about it). I use Pocket Informant for setting, checking, larger edits and toodledo and the free calendar in the iPhone for quick things. it's a bit left handed behind the right ear but it works
