You have surely seen it in several pictures or in various films. To be safe, various criminals tape over the front camera of their laptop so that it cannot be tracked if it is hacked. The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, who was photographed a few years ago, also has a front-facing camera taped to his laptop. However, a patch or tape stuck to the top of the screen is not a work of art. You will absolutely prevent someone from possibly spying on you, but unfortunately, this solution definitely does not look tasteful. So if you want to disable the camera completely, you can do so using a simple utility that we will look at today.

How to Completely Disable Front Camera on Mac

There are many instructions on the Internet how you can disable the camera. However, most of these instructions are too complicated - first you have to disable SIP through recovery mode, then perform several actions in the terminal, etc. However, several years ago I managed to capture a simple one utility, which was originally developed on OS X El Capitan. However, to my surprise, it still works today. The utility named iSightConfigure you can download using this link. Once the download is complete, you need to run the utility by clicking on it right click, and then clicked on the option Open. If you skip this step, you will not be able to run the camera setup utility. After starting, a window with two buttons will appear - Enable iSight a Disable iSight. These buttons do exactly what they describe, ie Enable - activate a Disable - deactivate. Once you press one of these options, all you have to do is prove yourself password, and then the utility close.

You can test the functionality of this utility at any time, for example, in the FaceTime application. When you start FaceTime with the camera disabled, only a black window appears and the green LED next to the camera does not turn on. If you would like to reactivate the camera, run the iSightConfigure utility again and select the Enable iSight option. If you decide to disable the camera, be careful not to delete the utility - otherwise it could become very difficult to activate the camera. Either save this article, or save the utility somewhere on a flash drive or the cloud.
