Of course, the macOS operating system includes classic folders that are used for better organization of all kinds of data. In addition to the ordinary folders, you can also use dynamic folders that can display content depending on the selected criteria. Thanks to dynamic folders, you can quickly and easily access different data without having to search for it. Working with dynamic folders may seem complicated to some users - but don't let that fool you. On the contrary, it is nothing complicated and you can create your own dynamic folder once or twice, you can even add it to the Dock for quick access.

How to add a folder with recently opened applications to the Dock on a Mac

You probably work with one dynamic folder every day on your Mac - and you don't even know it. This is the Recent Items folder, which contains the files you last worked with = criterion. Let's see together in this article how you can create a dynamic folder to access recently launched applications. The procedure is as follows:

  • First, go to the native app on your Mac Finder.
  • Once you've done that, click on the tab in the top bar File.
  • Now you need to tap on the drop down menu New dynamic folder.
  • Immediately after that, you will find yourself in the interface for creating a dynamic folder.
  • Here then in the upper right part click on the + icon to add a criterion.
  • As the first criterion, create Type and select in the second menu application.
  • Then + icon add another criterion, with which we ensure that the last running applications are displayed.
  • Set the next criterion to Last opened = during the last x days/weeks/months/years.
    • Set according to your own preferences the time of the last application launches, with which the folder should count.
  • Once you have set the criteria, just click on the button in the upper right Impose.
  • Dynamic folder si name the for example on Last application, choose folder location and whether he has add to sidebar.
  • Finally, you just need to tap on Impose, which saves the folder.

Thus, using the above method, it is possible to create a dynamic folder in which the last running applications will be displayed. If you want to add it to the Dock for quick access, just add it grabbed and placed in the right part of the Dock, i.e. behind the separator, next to the basket. Once inserted and opened, a set of apps will appear by default. If you would prefer to display the applications in a small folder, then on the icon right click and set up View as a View content as according to your own taste - click through all the options and choose what suits you best. Among other things, you can also reset alignment of all items in the dynamic folder.
