You don't need to sit behind a Mac keyboard for simple video editing. Many edits can be done directly on the iPhone or iPad. While you can shorten the video directly in the native Photos application, you have to reach for iMovie to possibly crop or zoom it. Even here, the function is not as obvious as it might seem, so in today's tutorial we will show you how to crop a video using zoom in iMovie.

How to crop a video in iMovie:

You can easily edit any video you import into iMovie. Before you begin, make sure you have iMovie installed on your iPhone or iPad (you can download <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>) and that the video or movie you want to make changes to is stored on the device itself.

  1. Open it iMovie.
  2. Go to the tab Projects.
  3. With a button + create a new project.
  4. Choose Movie.
  5. Click to select the video you want to trim and mark it. Then tap the button Create a movie.
  6. A new project will open, click on A timeline videos.
  7. Another toolbar will appear along with a small a magnifying glass in the corner of the video, tap it to activate the crop or zoom function.
  8. An inscription will appear Adjust the size by pinching or unzipping. Now you can use the gesture to edit the video according to your needs.
  9. When you are satisfied with the video cropping or scaling, tap Done.
  10. You can now export the trimmed movie from iMovie and save it to your camera roll with a button Sharing.
  11. Choose where you want to save the video or how you want to share it. Choose an option Save the video, which exports the resulting movie to the gallery.
  12. Select the size of the exported video.
  13. You can now go back to the camera gallery to find the cropped video.

It is also important to emphasize that cropping or zooming in on a video clip will result in a loss of quality. The larger the zoom or crop, the worse the video quality. When you first save a video, the thumbnail may not appear cropped or enlarged, but the edited video still is.
