If you follow the events in the Apple world, you certainly did not miss the first conference from Apple this June - specifically, it was WWDC21. At this developer conference, Apple presents new versions of its operating systems every year, and this year was no different. We saw the introduction of iOS and iPadOS 15, macOS 12 Monterey, watchOS 8 and tvOS 15. All these systems have been available for early access to all testers and developers in beta versions since their introduction. A few days ago, the public versions of the mentioned systems were released, that is, except for macOS 12 Monterey. This means that all owners of supported devices can install them. In our magazine, we are still dealing with news from the systems, and in this article we will look at another function from iOS 15.

How to view photo metadata on iPhone

The world's smartphone manufacturers are constantly competing to introduce a device with a better camera. Nowadays, flagship cameras are so good that in some cases you have trouble distinguishing them from SLR images. If you take a picture with any device, in addition to capturing the image as such, metadata will also be recorded. If you are hearing this term for the first time, then it is data about data, in this case data about photography. Thanks to them, you can find out where, when and with what the picture was taken, what the lens settings were and much more. If you wanted to view this data on an iPhone, you had to use a third-party application. But in iOS 15, this changes and we don't need any other application to display metadata. Here's how to view them:

  • First, you need to move to the native application Photos.
  • Once you do that, find a open the photo for which you want to view metadata.
  • Then tap on at the bottom of the screen icon ⓘ.
  • After that, all the metadata will be displayed and you can go through it.

Thus, it is possible to view the metadata of a photo on an iPhone through the above procedure. If you open the metadata of a picture that is not taken but, for example, saved from an application, you will see information about which specific application it comes from. In certain cases, it is also useful to edit the metadata - these changes can also be made in Photos. To change the metadata, just open it and then tap Edit in the upper right corner of its interface. You will then be able to change the time and date of acquisition, along with the time zone.
