If you copy anything on your iPhone or any other device, this data will be stored in a kind of memory - it is called a clipboard or a copy clipboard. This is where the data is stored until you overwrite it with other data by copying it again. You can then work with the copied data, i.e. paste it anywhere, be it text, images, documents or anything else. However, there has been a kind of security risk on iPhones since third-party applications could access the clipboard practically without restriction. So if you had any sensitive data copied to your iPhone, applications could gain access to it.

How to set apps to access clipboard on iPhone

But the good news is that Apple realized this risk, so in iOS 16 it came up with a solution - if any of the applications needs to automatically access the copy box, i.e. without your action, the system will not allow it. A dialog box will appear in which you must allow the application access to the clipboard, or, of course, deny it. However, users subsequently complained that this function is very strict and that the mentioned dialog box appears very often. In one of the smaller updates, there was a fix, and requests to access the mailbox are not displayed as often. But the improvements do not end there, as in iOS 16.1 users can directly set which applications can access the clipboard. The procedure is as follows:

  • First, go to the native app on your iPhone Settings.
  • Then go down a bit here below, where to locate list of installed applications.
  • You are in this list find a specific application, for which you want to change the prefix, a open it.
  • Here, open the box with the name Embedding from other applications.
  • In the end, it's enough choose one of the three options, which will be displayed.

So, in the above way, on your iPhone with iOS 16.1 and later, access to the clipboard can be set. If you choose the option Ask, so the application will still ask you for access here and there, by selecting Prohibit completely disable the application access to the clipboard and by selecting Allow once again there will be unlimited access to the mailbox. However, it is necessary to mention that in order to display the Inserting from other applications box you a particular app must request access to the clipboard at least once or it won't appear at all. It is a shame that access to the mailbox cannot be set for applications at once in the Privacy section, but there is nothing you can do about it.
