Most ordinary displays offer a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which translates to refresh 60 times per second. However, displays with a higher refresh rate have started to appear in recent years. While Android smartphones have been offering higher refresh rates for a long time, Apple recently introduced them to its Apple phones, namely the iPhone 13 Pro (Max), i.e. only the more expensive models, together with the recently introduced iPhone 14 Pro ( max). The Californian giant named this technology ProMotion, and more precisely, it is an adaptive refresh rate that changes depending on the displayed content, ranging from 10 Hz to 120 Hz.

How to disable ProMotion on iPhone

The display with ProMotion technology is one of the main drivers of the most expensive models. They say that once you try ProMotion, you never want to change it. No wonder, because it can refresh the screen up to 120 times per second, so the image is much smoother and simply more pleasant. But in reality, there are a handful of users who are unable to tell the difference between a classic display and one with ProMotion, and on top of that, this technology causes a bit more battery consumption. So, if you are among these individuals, or if you want to save battery, you can deactivate ProMotion, as follows:

  • First, on your ProMotion-enabled iPhone, go to the app Settings.
  • Once you do, slide down a piece below, where find and click the section Disclosure.
  • Then move again lower, up to the category named Vision.
  • Within this category, then go to the section Movement.
  • Here, just a switch is enough deactivate function Limit frame rate.

So, using the above procedure, you can disable ProMotion on your iPhone 13 Pro (Max) or iPhone 14 Pro (Max). As soon as you deactivate it, the maximum refresh rate of the display will be reduced from 120 Hz to half, i.e. to 60 Hz, which is available on cheaper iPhone models. It's important to mention that you must have iOS 16 or later installed on a supported iPhone to disable ProMotion, otherwise you won't see this option.
