The Apple Watch is primarily built to be worn on the user's left hand, with the digital crown located at the top right of the watch. Apple decided on this choice for a simple reason – people in most cases wear their watch on their left hand, and placing the digital crown in the upper right provides the easiest control. However, users are of course different and there are individuals who want to wear the Apple Watch on their right hand, or who want to have the digital crown on the other hand. There are actually four different ways you can put your Apple Watch on your wrist, and in all cases you need to let your Apple Watch know about it.

How to change the orientation and position of the digital crown on Apple Watch

If you decide on a different way to wear your Apple Watch, you need to let the system know about it for several reasons. The first is that you will of course have the display upside down after turning the apple watch over. The second reason is that the watch may misjudge the movement when the wrist is raised upwards and the display will not light up. Thirdly, with an incorrectly set orientation, you risk that the ECG on Series 4 and later will provide inaccurate and false results. To change the orientation of your Apple Watch, you must proceed as follows:

  • First, you need to go to the native app on your iPhone Watch.
  • Once you have done so, move to the section in the bottom menu My watch.
  • Then scroll down a bit to find and click on the section In general.
  • Then scroll down again and click on the line with the name Orientation.
  • In the end, you're just choose which hand you wear your Apple Watch on and where you have the digital crown.

So it is possible to change the orientation of your apple watch using the above procedure. As I mentioned above, it is absolutely ideal if you wear the Apple Watch on your left hand, which Apple simply took into account during production. When worn like this, it is therefore set that you are wearing the watch on your left wrist and that the digital crown is on the right. So for any other way of wearing your Apple Watch, use the above procedure to make the change. In conclusion, I would just like to add that, of course, Apple does not discriminate against individuals who prefer to wear their watch on their right hand. During the first setup, the system immediately gives you a choice on which hand you want to wear the watch - you only need to choose the location of the digital crown.
