You can light up the Apple Watch display in several different ways, such as by tapping your finger or turning the digital crown. But most of us turn on the display simply by lifting our wrist up to our face. As for turning off the display or switching to Always-On mode, all you have to do is hang your hand up again, or you can place your palm on the display, which, in addition to turning off the display, will also silence all notifications, alarms, calls and more. Otherwise, the Apple Watch display will of course automatically turn off or switch to Always-On after a certain period of inactivity.

How to set when the system automatically returns to the watch face screen on Apple Watch

After turning off the display and then turning it back on, you've probably noticed that sometimes the system stays in the app you had open, and sometimes it automatically moves back to the home page with the watch face. This is definitely not a watchOS bug, but a feature that you can of course customize. If you would like to change the setting when the system automatically returns to the watch face screen, just follow these steps:

  • First, you need to go to the native app on your iPhone Watch.
  • Once you've done that, go to the section at the bottom of the screen My watch.
  • Then scroll down a bit and click on the box with the name In general.
  • Then go down a bit again to locate and open the row Back to watch face.
  • Here you just have to choose when the system should automatically return to the watch face screen.

Using the above procedure, it is therefore possible to set on your Apple Watch how long after the display turns off, the system will automatically return to the home page with the watch face. There is an option Always, when the system returns to the dial immediately after the display turns off, you can optionally set a return After 2 minutes, or After 1 hour. You can also set this preset individually by clicking on the selected application below in the list. Unfortunately, there is no option to disable automatic moving to the watch face screen.
