When we heard even before the Far Out Keynote that Apple would cut the iPhone mini and replace it with the larger Max and later the Plus version, I was quite excited. It clearly echoed the current trend, when no one simply wants small phones anymore, and a larger iPhone will be more affordable than just the Pro Max version. But nobody wants the Plus models either. Why?

Of course, you don't have to agree with it, but that's about the only thing you can do. Although small phones look nice, the vast majority of users do not want to be limited by their small display sizes. And 5,4 inches is a really small display that you won't find on the Android competition. Big phones rule, and the small sales of the iPhone mini proved that.

So terminating them was a completely logical choice because why would Apple focus on them if they are not delivering sales. The iPhone 14 got bigger, while the Plus model with its 6,7" display, which is equal in size to the Pro Max models, is here. And it's great, because we could expect a large device already in the basic series and thus also save on buying the 14 Pro Max version if we don't need its added features. But the reality is a little different. Nobody really wants the Plus model either.

There are few advantages

So, of course, it is not appropriate to write that no one, because someone will be found after all, and there will certainly be a larger group than, for example, in the case of sales of the entire portfolio of a Chinese manufacturer. But if we look at it through the lens of Apple, surely it could have waited more. But he actually did it himself, twice with the Plus model.

Firstly, of course, with the exception of a larger display, the novelty offers so few changes compared to the iPhone 13 and the basic iPhone 14 that it will attract few people to them. Its main draw should have been a larger display, but Apple postponed the premiere of the phone until October 7, when the phone went on the market late and no one really cares much anymore. So those who wanted new iPhones probably went for the base model or simply paid more for what the Pro Max models offer. And since Plus is only the fourth in a row, it has been somewhat forgotten.

If you look at the Apple Online Store now and order it today, you will have it at home tomorrow. The same applies to the basic model, which does not indicate that Apple has stocked up well, but lack of interest. But you will have to wait for the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, because they are a relative blockbuster, not only because of the Dynamic Island, but also because of the 48 MPx camera. Of course, we can argue that Apple also killed it with the price, but that is not entirely true. If he had copied last year's prices, then the distances between the basic, Plus and 14 Pro versions would still be the same, only the Plus model would cost as much as the basic iPhone 14 costs now.

Simply put, it could have been a real hit, in fact it's only the fourth in a row, for which it is not worth paying extra compared to the basic 6,1" size. On the other hand, others may rather pay extra for the 14 Pro model and settle for a smaller display. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is not really a competitor, because if we look at last year's iPhone 13 Pro Max, they are paradoxically more equipped, they just lack car accident detection, satellite communication, action mode, recording in movie mode in 4K quality and have a worse front camera . In contrast, they have a telephoto lens, ProRAW, ProRes, macro, adaptive refresh rate of the display, better its typical maximum brightness, or a steel frame, etc.
