In 2018, iPhones could get OLED displays (November 25)

All iPhones from the first generation to the current one use IPS displays. They are of high quality, but the black color on them will never be as black as it is in the case of OLED displays. Apple used such displays for the first time with the Watch, and now there are speculations that it is also planning OLED displays for iPhones in the future.

The change hasn't come yet this year, the iPhone 6S still has IPS displays, but according to the latest reports, this is mainly due to the fact that suppliers have not been able to cover the production of OLED displays that Apple would need for its phones. However, LG Display is already increasing its production capacity, and Samsung will certainly be interested in supplying OLED displays, as it currently has the largest factories for this product.

According to a Japanese website Nikkei however, OLED displays in iPhones are not expected to appear in 2018 at the earliest, i.e. in two generations.
