The 5th Apple Week reports on how the new iTunes Match service works, Eddy Cue's promotion or speculates on what the new iPhone XNUMX might look like. There is also mention of other new Apple Stores and the possible resurrection of the WebOS operating system...

Beta of the new iTunes Match service launched (29.)

Apple has launched a beta for American developers of the new iTunes Match service, which stores your music library in iCloud and allows you to play it on all devices – iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or computer. iTunes Match beta requires the latest iOS 5 beta and iTunes 10.5 beta 6.1. The service will run for $25 per year. iTunes Match practically flips your music library to iCloud, from where you can stream or download it to all devices with the same iTunes account. Songs that Apple already has in its database will not need to be uploaded to the server, speeding up the whole process.

As mentioned, the songs will either be streamed or downloaded. So if you have an internet connection, you can just stream the songs, saving space on your device. However, given the state of the Czech mobile internet connection and the prices, it will not be very advantageous for us. Server Insanely Great Mac has created some great videos showing how iTunes Match works on Mac and iOS devices.

Samsung could buy webOS due to patents (August 29)

When Hewlett-Packard announced the end of support for webOS, it began to be speculated what will happen to the ambitious operating system and whether anyone will resurrect it at all. Now there are indications that it could be bought by Samsung, which would imitate Google with its acquisition of Motorola.

Yes, even on Samsung's part, it would probably be primarily about obtaining a patent portfolio, which it could brandish in the extensive lawsuits that it is currently leading, especially with Apple. Both HP and Samsung declined to comment on the situation. If Samsung were to buy HP's computer segment as well, it probably wouldn't pay off too much. The South Korean company has a much higher gross profit, but webOS and patents are interesting for Samsung.

Comex commented on cooperation with Apple (August 29)

V Apple week #33 you may have read that Apple took a well-known hacker under its wing Comex, founder of the JailbreakMe project. He left many supporters wondering if he would continue to look for new holes in the system.

No it will not.

Not only will he not be involved in future jailbreaks, but he probably won't warm to Apple for long either, as he's about to go back to college. Another reason why he doesn't want to work for an extended period of time is the fact that he has never had a job before (if we ignore the $55 he gradually raised with support from the jailbreak community).

What do you think about Apple stealing ideas from unofficial apps and tweaks?

I honestly don't care. An unofficial app might have a good idea but a lame implementation. Apple takes that idea and modifies it in its own image to fit into the system. I don't know if Apple pays attention to unofficial apps.

Why did you accept the internist position? After all, you could probably have a full-time job at Apple.

I don't know if I would want her. After all, I've never worked before and I don't even know what it's like. Plus, I'm about to go back to college.

Have you made any money with JailbrakMe?

Through the support, I came up with quite a decent amount of money. JailbreakMe 2.0 made me about $40, 000 made me $3.0.

Do you see the future of the iOS platform optimistically? What new features are you looking forward to?

My personal opinion is that iOS will continue to "kick the butt" of the competition with performance. Apple follows the motto "take your time and do it right". It is then a pleasure for users to work with Apple products.

When your cooperation with Apple ends and after the release of the final version of iOS 5, will you continue to look for holes in the system to enable jailbreaking?

No.

Apple requests the return of the MacBook Pro 3G prototype (August 30)

Two weeks ago we informed you about the prototype MacBook Pro with 3G module, which was produced in 2007. On the eBay auction portal, its price rose to a very respectable $70. The winner of the auction took his new device to the Genius Bar, where it was inspected.

“After disassembling the device, it was found that almost all the components are from third-party manufacturers; motherboard, optical drive, display, hard drive and more. The device serial number (W8707003Y53) is valid.”

The new owner sued the dealer, costing the dealer $740. The Macbook prototype was returned to the seller. He again offered it for sale. Now Apple is demanding its return.

Android leads the US mobile OS market (August 30)

Analysts from comScore published interesting numbers regarding mobile operating systems and their share of the American market. It can be seen from the table that the share of iOS is still slightly increasing. It also improved Google with its Android quite decently, securing the first place with less than 42%. Other operating systems, on the other hand, are losing their share. RIM fared the worst with its BlackBerry OS – the drop is exactly 4%. Systems from Microsoft and Nokia also fell slightly.

Of course, these numbers do not say anything about the number of devices sold, but they certainly correspond to current trends.

Did Apple show us the iPhone 5? (31. 8.)

In the latest beta of Photo Stream, the part of iCloud that will enable the synchronization of photos between individual devices, Apple also added a kind of image describing its function. It wouldn't be so interesting if it didn't have an iPhone icon that doesn't look like any of the known phones. In addition to the larger display, it also has a slightly longer Home button. What do you think, is this the next iPhone?

Apple and USB 3.0 (31 August)

Although Apple has abandoned USB in its latest lines of Mac computers and introduced a new high-speed Thunderbolt port. It has the potential to become as universal as USB, but its disadvantage is the fact that it is completely new, therefore it lacks peripherals and its implementation is more expensive than in the case of the competing USB 3. The biggest advantage of the new generation of this port is the increase in speed to ten times the maximum USB 2 On the server VR-Zone but there was speculation regarding the possible inclusion of USB 3.0 in Apple products even before the arrival of the new Intel platform.

Macs and MacBooks also don't have USB because Intel didn't support it on their motherboards. However, he said that in 2012 he is going to introduce support for both Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 on the platform known as Ivy Bridge. So it is possible that Apple will return to USB in the future because it is much cheaper. There is also the option that he will not wait for Intel, but will come up with his own solution and introduce USB support even before Intel. If the latest generation of USB were to appear in any Apple product, it would most likely be the Mac Pro, which has been awaiting a refresh since August of last year, or the speculated new line of Mac products.

The first day of school marked by a new advertisement for iPad 2 (September 1)

The first day of September means only one thing - the new school year begins. Apple reacted to this event in an unconventional way, which came up with an advertisement for the iPad 2, in which it shows how great this tablet is for learning. A wide spectrum of "learning" is included in the spot - from TED (talks on technology, entertainment and design), Chinese characters, through anatomy and astronomy, to a game of chess. The slogan underlines everything "There's never been a better time to learn" (There's never been a better time to learn).

Leaked component hints at arrival of white iPod touch (1/9)

If the part in the picture is indeed the 3,5mm jack for the upcoming iPod touch, Apple is going to release a white version of it. This fact will surely appeal to more people, because the iPod touch of the fourth generation is produced only in a black variant.

Bono on Steve Jobs and charity (2/9)

Steve Jobs is not one of the well-known charity contributors, for example Bill Gates, however, this does not mean that he does not participate significantly in charitable activities, at least that is how the charismatic singer of the band stated U2, Good. In an interview for New York Times he cited the "red" (RED) product campaign as a shining example. Apple partnered with U2 to sell an exclusive line of iPods with the band's branding, with a portion of the proceeds going to Bono's AIDS fund in Africa. Bono quotes:

"I am proud to know him (Steve Jobs). He is a poetic person, an artist and an entrepreneur. Just because he's extra busy doesn't mean he and his wife, Laurene, don't think about charity. You don't have to be his friend to know how secretive he is or that he never does things by halves.'

Final Cut Studio on sale again (September 3)

As we wrote earlier, the release of a new version of the program for cutting videos, Final Cut Pro X, was met with mixed feelings from users, with film professionals in particular complaining about the lack of some important advanced features and the lack of backward compatibility with projects from the previous version. The application began to be nicknamed "iMovie Pro". Some customers preferred to complain about their purchase and return to Final cut studio. However, Apple made this option difficult by ceasing to offer the older version, and if someone, for example, needed to purchase additional licenses for their company, they were out of luck.

But thanks to user pressure, Final Cut Studio has returned to the menu and is once again available for purchase at a price of $999 or $899 for students. However, this product cannot be purchased in the Apple Store or through the e-shop on Apple.com, it is only available when ordering by phone, which is not yet possible in our countries. Although the launch of the new version of the editing program did not succeed twice, at least with this step Apple came to the satisfaction of dissatisfied customers.
