Acquisition of AT&T and T-Mobile in the USA, new operating system updates or queues for iPads in front of Czech retailers. You can read all this and much more in today's Apple Week.

AT&T bought the American T-Mobile for 39 billion dollars (20.)

America will soon have only three operators. The largest American operator AT&T bought the entire division of T-Mobile in the USA from the company Deutsche Telekom AG. The Antimonopoly Authority gave the green light to this acquisition and AT&T came to 39 billion. The company thus gained several tens of millions of new customers, but above all a very fast 4G network.

The entire acquisition is to be completed in a year. Until then, T-Mobile will remain independent and customers will not be affected in any way after this period of the merger. However, existing customers can finally look forward to the iPhone, which should be in their operator's portfolio within a year, when T-Mobile becomes AT&T. Acquisitions of mobile operators are nothing new, for example T-Mobile bought in 2007 SunCom Wireless, two years later he took Sprint under your wings Virgin Mobile.

Even a two-year-old child can control the iPad (March 20)

The fact that iOS devices can boast is that they are really simple to operate. In fact, the controls are so simple that even a two-year-old child can use it to play their favorite games. This is also largely behind the massive success of iPhones and iPads. We are curious to see what this generation will grow up to in twenty years, however, you can already enjoy the video of how a child of only two years old can operate an Apple tablet:

Apple Sues Amazon Over 'App Store' Name (21/3)

Bloomberg reported that Apple filed a lawsuit against Amazon on March 18 for using the name "App Store." Amazon has been using this connection since January 2011 for its developer portal, at the same time it is about to launch a web App Store for Android. Amazon has so far declined to comment on the situation.

Another smaller company was also forced to change its name MiKandi offering Android apps for adults. Apple guards its term "App Store" like an eye in its head. Not even Microsoft can do anything about it, which is trying to deny Apple ownership of the phrase with a complaint, saying that it is too general an app store name.

Specifically, these changes are:

  • Fixed issue with file transfers to certain SMB servers.
  • Fixed several bugs in the Mac App Store.
  • Fix minor bugs in FaceTime functionality.
  • Improved graphic stability and compatibility of external displays.

You can download the update via Software Update in the system.

Woman says no, Apple says yes again (March 21)

The new iPad has brought a lot of joy to people and even some interesting stories to the world. A certain American took care of the funniest one. Apple occasionally accepts iPad returns by mail for a variety of reasons, whether they are defective units or not meeting customer requirements. This US citizen sent the iPad back with the single note "Woman says no".

The information about the returned iPad must have reached top management somehow. The story hidden behind the simple note apparently moved them so much that they sent the iPad back to the unfortunate husband of the woman's technology for free. They then added a similarly short note to the shipment: "Apple says yes."

Apple has no plans to stop selling the iPod Classic (March 23)

The iPod Classic hasn't been revised in a long time. At the last music event in September, Apple updated the entire range of iPods, only the Classic was left out, leaving it as the only one with the distinctive control wheel. However, this move has led to speculation whether Apple is going to drop the iPod Classic from its portfolio. However, Steve Jobs himself indicated to one of the users in a short email that the Classic will continue to be sold. When asked if Apple was going to remove it from the menu, he replied:

"No, we don't plan to do that. Sent from my iPhone.”

One of the "fathers" of Mac OS X - Bertrand Serlet - leaves Apple (March 23)

After twenty-two years of collaboration with Steve Jobs, Bertrand Sterlet decided to leave the Californian company. Serlet held the position of vice president of Mac software at Apple and is one of those behind the creation of the OS X operating system. “I worked with Steve for twenty two years and it was a great time. I've had incredible moments working on products for NeXT (a company founded by Jobs - ed.) and Apple, but now I want to focus a little less on the products and focus on the science." says the press statement. We will miss his cute French accent at future keynotes. Craig Federighi will now report to Steve Jobs instead of Serlet. Let's remember Bertrand Serlet at least with his talk at WWDC in 2006:

There won't be a keyboard with a dock for the iPad 2, Schiller confirmed (March 24)

While Apple introduced a special dock with an external keyboard when introducing the first iPad, it did not do so with the iPad 2. One user didn't like it, so he wrote to Phil Schiller, who replied that a new version of the dock was not coming.

“Most of the time people prefer the software keyboard, it works well. Those who want an external keyboard can purchase the Apple Wireless Keyboard, which works the same way.”

However, the problem can be solved much more simply. The iPad 2 also works with the old keyboard dock for the first generation, although it is thinner.

  • addresses an authentication issue with some corporate web services

Verizon's iPhone 4 remains on iOS 4.2.6. Users have complained across the board about less battery life, but there is no mention of a fix for this problem. Whether the battery life will improve will be determined by testing.

iPad 2 went on sale in the Czech Republic (March 25)

Despite the confusing news from the Czech Apple website, according to which the iPad was not expected to appear until April, on March 25 new iPads went on sale in the Czech Republic and in 24 other countries. The sale was scheduled for five o'clock in the afternoon, but a few hours before the start, queues of dozens of people began to form at the APR (Apple Premium Resseler) stores. The iPads came to us in a very limited quantity, so it didn't reach many interested parties at all.

The best situation was handled by iSetos, who distributed tapes with a serial number to all interested parties during the day, so people did not have to stand in line for long hours, they just had to come back just before the start of the sale, while everyone could only buy one device. On the contrary, Datart had the worst situation, which the day before the launch claimed that it would be possible to order iPads online at 17.00:2 p.m. But the devices were actually sold out days before - thanks to pre-orders. Therefore, only a few lucky people who went to a brick-and-mortar store during the incriminated period could buy an iPad. The next shipment of iPads is expected in about XNUMX weeks.

Drivers for other graphics cards appeared in the latest version of Mac OS X (March 25)

In addition to minor improvements, drivers for some series of ATI graphics cards, specifically for the 10.6.7XXX and 5XXX series, appeared in the new operating system labeled 6. So far, Apple has only included a select few cards in its system that it has used in its computers. It's certain that this has something to do with the new iMacs arriving, where graphics cards from these lines should appear, however the hacker who discovered these drivers claims that the graphics cards could be replaceable in the future, at least in the iMacs. So far, this has only been possible with the top-of-the-line Mac Pro.

Cydia has been updated to version 1.1 (March 26)

The app store for jailbroken iPhones, iPod touch iPads has been updated. The update bears the designation 1.1 and mainly brings speed and stability. Cydia has never been one of the fastest applications, with the new update it should change now. The search has also been improved, and thanks to the new algorithm, it should find more relevant results, not just based on the name of the application. Also new is the function where you continue the application where you left off before you left the application. However, this is not directly about multitasking, on which Jay Freeman alias Saurik currently working.
