If you've ever bought a DVD or Blu-ray, you've probably found some extra content on the disc in addition to the movie itself - cut scenes, failed shots, a director's commentary, or a documentary about the making of the movie. Similar content is also offered by iTunes Extras, which until now was only available on the first-generation Apple TV and on the Mac, where playing Extras meant downloading a large video file and then playing it.

Today, Apple updated iTunes to version 11.3, which will allow watching Extras and HD movies as well as streaming them. then you will no longer have to deal with the lack of disk space to be able to play them. If you've already purchased an HD movie for which Extras are now available, you'll get instant access to them without having to purchase anything else.

Extras is also finally coming to the 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TVs, which don't have solid storage (beyond cache) and couldn't download additional content to them. Apple released an update to Apple TV last month that will allow streaming of Extras. You can watch failed footage from purchased movies on your TV today, just like on your Mac.

The last place where Extras aren't available yet is on iOS devices. We will have to wait a little longer for them for our iPads, iPhones and iPod touch. Apple has announced that their support will only come with iOS 8, which will be released this fall. Either way, users will soon be able to watch bonus content on any Apple device, making Extras much more meaningful, especially with the ability to watch them on Apple TV.
