As soon as the first analyzes of the internal components of the new iPhones began to appear on the web, it was only a matter of time before the first calculations of how much the new products actually cost also appeared. As it now turns out, the new iPhones are the most expensive iPhones in history, not only by selling price, but also by adding up production costs. And at the top of the pyramid stands the 512 GB iPhone XS Max.

According to the analysis of the analytical company TechInsight the most expensive component of the novelties is the display. The one in the XS Max model will cost $80,5. The complete A12 Bionic processor together with a data modem from Intel is in the background. Together, these two parts come to about $72. The third most expensive component is memory chips, where a 256GB nVME chip costs Apple about $64. In addition, Apple has the largest margins on memory chips due to the disparity between the production price of individual modules and their selling price - the surcharges for higher memory versions definitely do not correspond to the difference in the production price.

Another relatively expensive component is the main camera module, which consists of a pair of optically stabilized 13 MPx sensors and lenses. These should cost Apple $44. The body of the phone and other mechanical components are then for $55. If the costs of all components are added up, the manufacturing cost of the new iPhones (hardware only, excluding additional costs for R&D, marketing and more) is $443 for the XS Max 256GB model. The smaller iPhone XS is of course slightly cheaper, just as the price depends on the memory chip used.

If we compare the iPhone XS with last year's predecessor in the form of the iPhone X, the novelty is almost $50 more expensive in the same memory configuration, if we are talking about the theoretical production costs per unit. And this despite the fact that Apple managed to reduce the production price of displays by more than 10 dollars. However, the iPhone XS Max is sold for $100 more than last year's iPhone X. The increase in costs will definitely return to Apple.
