Today I will start the first of the new series here on Jablíčkář.cz. In this series, at the end of the month, I look back at the previous month and I always choose one game that came out that month and impressed me the most. In the month of June, I liked the racing game Real Racing the most.

The Firemint development team tried to achieve the best possible feeling of racing on the iPhone. They ditched the third-person view (although that is also possible) and focused on the best possible racing experience directly from the cockpit. You can see how the racer's hands work both on the steering wheel and on the gear lever.

In terms of graphics, this is a very successful piece. But the authors focused mainly on physics, so don't count on the fact that you wouldn't even touch the brake, quite the opposite. Late braking and you end up in gravel. In short, Real Racing pushes the processor and graphics to the max, and unfortunately it can sometimes be seen when the game lags a bit.

In total, in the game you will find 36 different cars in a total of 3 performance classes and you will be able to drive on 12 different tracks. The career mode adds to the atmosphere, in which you will participate in a total of 57 races. The game offers several types of control, of which I personally like the automatic gas, braking by touching the screen and turning by tilting the iPhone (accelerometer). Thanks to the sensitivity settings of the accelerometer, you can adjust everything to your liking.

Real Racing includes both local multiplayer and online multiplayer. While local works over Wi-Fi and in an upcoming update you will be able to play with up to 6 people, online multiplayer only works by competing in a league for the best possible lap time and this time is then compared to the times of others. You can then send your best time to Twitter or Facebook, or export the ride video to YouTube. There are also online leaderboards on the Cloudcell.com server.

In Real Racing, there can be "only" 6 cars in one race. This is due to the fact that the physics of the cars is not completely bad, and the calculations will load the iPhone's processor to the maximum. Of course, I'm talking about the iPhone 3G, because the iPhone 3GS can handle the game without any problems. The authors of the game created a technological demo where the iPhone 3GS managed up to 40 cars in one race (see video). But Firemint does not plan to release this demo in any future update.

Overall, I have to say that Real Racing impressed me. If Need for Speed is the king of iPhone arcade racing, then Real Racing is the king of more reality-based racing. The only minus is certainly the price, on the Appstore you can find Real Racing with a price tag of €7,99. In the future, however, there will definitely be an event and Real Racing will be available for €5, for example. And it's definitely worth it!
