The Apple Pencil has been with us for quite some time now, with Apple only offering support for it on its iPads. With the competition, especially the one from the Samsung stable, we can see that a mobile phone can also be used with the stylus. But does this combination have a chance of success in the case of Apple?

Using a stylus in combination with a mobile phone is not an achievement of the South Korean manufacturer. Even before the "smartphone revolution" ushered in by the first iPhone, there were numerous "communicators" who excelled at them. Sony Ericcson, for example, bet a lot on them in his P series. But that was a very different time. In the modern era, it was Samsung that tried it with them, when styluses were the prerogative of its Galaxy Note series. But how did it turn out? Bad, society cut her.

However, this did not mean the end of using a smartphone with a pen. This February, the flagship Galaxy S22 series arrived, where the Ultra model just took over this feature of the Note series and offers the S Pen right in its body. The previous generation of Samsung's S Pen already supported it, but you had to buy it additionally and there was no dedicated space for it in the device. And that was the problem.

Apple Pencil iPhone Edition

If you had an iPhone and used the Apple Pencil with it, that should mean you also have an iPad, which is where you primarily use the Apple Pencil. In that case, it makes no sense why you would actually want to use it with an iPhone. If you didn't have an iPad, why would you buy an Apple Pencil just for an iPhone? You would have nowhere to carry it, and nowhere to charge it.

With the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Samsung offered its support by making the S Pen so small that you could carry it with your phone in a special phone case. But this solution was very bulky and inconvenient, and Android with the One UI superstructure did not give much reason for this work. As the successor already has a dedicated space for the S Pen in the body, the situation is different. It's right at hand, the device doesn't grow with it, and this interesting input element is actually quite fun. In addition, it adds more options such as camera shutter release etc.

So using an iPhone with the current Apple Pencil doesn't make sense. But if Apple made just such an iPhone that integrated the "Apple Pencil iPhone Edition" into the body, it would be a different song with potential, especially if the company tweaked some of the features that the basic series lacked. Of course, there is a risk that he would be accused of copying the functions of his competition, but he is already doing that, just as she is copying from him.

The potential of jigsaw puzzles

However, it is unlikely that we will see anything like this. Samsung had a successful line that it canceled and carried its spirit into another line. Apple has nothing and no reason to do anything like that. In addition, it could also mean a certain cannibalization of iPads for him, when a certain spectrum of customers would be satisfied only with the iPhone, which would provide a certain functionality of iPads, and thus his sales from this dying segment would decrease even more.

It would seem most likely to use the Apple Pencil in the upcoming foldable device, of course, by directly integrating it into its body. After all, this is what customers want from Samsung to do in the next generation of its flexible phone Galaxy Z Fold5. In addition, it is rumored that in the case of Apple, the first foldable device will not be an iPhone, but a foldable iPad or a foldable MacBook, where it might make a lot more sense from Apple's point of view.
