At the September conference, together with the new iPhones and iPods, Apple also introduced the Lightning connector, which will replace the classic 30-pin connector. We have already discussed the reasons for this change in a separate section article. The main disadvantage is the incompatibility with the huge number of accessories that various manufacturers have produced specifically for devices with a docking connector. Apple itself offers several types of accessories, led by the popular iPhone cradles and other portable devices. However, it has not introduced any similar product for the new Lightning connector to date.

Nevertheless, perhaps lovers of the vertical positioning of their iPhones will have to wait after all. In the English user manual for the iPhone 5, there are mentions of the docking cradle in two places. The first incriminated sentence refers to a device called "iPhone Dock", the second already mentions only "Dock". In both cases, the postscript states that these accessories are sold separately.

That the creation of a cradle for a miniature Lightning connector is technically possible is proven by the way the iPhone 5 is displayed in Apple Stores. There, it is used in a special way transparent cradle, in which the power cord is hidden. The entire construction looks sturdy enough to prevent the cable from breaking. The original 30-pin cradles can be purchased from the official online store for CZK 649; if Apple were to actually release an updated version, the price could stay relatively the same. Even in the case of a new USB cable, the price increase represented only CZK 50.
