Is there any way to define technological perfection? And if so, would the iPhone 15 Pro Max represent it, or does it also have certain reserves that could be improved with some additional equipment? There is always room for improvement, but it is true that companies tell us what we actually want from their products. In the end, we would actually be satisfied with a much lower equipment.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the best iPhone Apple has made, and it makes sense. It's the latest, so it has the latest technology, which has gone even further compared to the smaller model thanks to the presence of a 5x telephoto lens. But with its absence from the iPhone 15 Pro, it's as if Apple is actually telling us that we don't need it at all. If we then look at the basic iPhone 15 series, we don't actually need a telephoto lens at all. What about the rest?

Which iPhone was historically the best?

It can be different for everyone, and a lot depends on the generation from which someone switched to it. Personally, I consider the iPhone XS Max to be the best model, which I switched to from the iPhone 7 Plus. This was due to the great and still new design, giant OLED display, Face ID and improved cameras. But it was also a phone that could actually replace a compact camera. Thanks to this, it provided a person with high-quality photos, even if they were taken only with a mobile phone. He had his reservations with regard to zooming in and taking pictures in poor lighting conditions, but it just worked. All these compromises were subsequently practically erased by the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which Apple released in 2021.

From today's point of view, there is still little that can be criticized about this two-year-old iPhone. Yes, it doesn't have Dynamic Island, it lacks Always On, car accident detection, satellite SOS, some photographic options (like action mode for video) and it has an older chip. But even that one is still nimble these days and can handle anything you find in the App Store. The photos are still great (by the way, in the rankings DXOMark it is still in a great 13th place, when the iPhone 14 Pro Max is in 10th).

Although the two-year shift in technology is noticeable, it is not one without which a person could not exist. I am not one of those who have to upgrade their portfolio year after year, also because the generational shift is not so noticeable. It all adds up to years. So even if you most likely don't need the most equipped iPhone today, even this year, it pays off more than basic models. If you are not a very basic user, the device will return to you over the next few years, when you will be able to delay the purchase of its successor.

Even in a few years, it will still be an extremely capable device that will fully serve everything you want from it. However, if you don't need to update your older device yet, you can skip the current spike with peace of mind.
