Recently, a security expert revealed that the iPhone 11 Pro collects data about the user's location even if the person has blocked access to it on the phone.

The error was noticed by KrebsOnSecurity, which also recorded the relevant video and sent it to Apple. She indicated in her reply that certain "system services" collect location data even when the user has disabled this activity in the phone's settings for all system services and applications. In its statement, KrebsOnSecurity quotes Apple itself as saying that location services can be turned off at any time, adding that there are system services on the iPhone 11 Pro (and possibly other models this year) where location tracking cannot be completely turned off.

The only solution, according to KrebsOnSecurity, is to completely disable location services. "But if you go to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services, disable each app individually, then scroll down to System Services and turn off individual services, the device will still have access to your location from time to time," the company reports. According to Apple's statement, apparently there are simply system services where users cannot determine whether or not data collection will occur.

"We don't see any real security implications here," wrote KrebsOnSecurity, an Apple employee, adding that displaying the location services icon is "expected behavior" when enabled. "The icon appears due to system services that do not have their own switch in Settings," stated

However, according to KrebsOnSecurities, this contradicts Apple's statement that users have full control over how their location is shared, and users who want to turn on location tracking only for Maps and not other apps or services, for example, cannot actually achieve this, and this despite the iPhone settings seemingly allowing it.
