Every day, in this column, we will bring you a more detailed look at a selected application that has just caught our attention. Here you will find applications for productivity, creativity, utilities, but also games. It won't always be the hottest news, our goal is primarily to highlight apps that we think are worth paying attention to. Today we're going to introduce the BBC's Civilizations AR app.

The Civilizations AR app is courtesy of the BBC. Its mission is to educate users in a fun and engaging way. It uses augmented reality for this. Civilizations AR presents a virtual collection of (so far) more than thirty artefacts from various historical periods and corners of the world.

After installation and first launch, Civilizations AR will ask you to access the camera. With its help, it scans your real surroundings, into which it projects its digital content. You are then just a few taps away from having a variety of art objects, inventions, crafts and other artefacts in your living room.

On the virtual globe, you select the area you are currently interested in and select some of the topics - it can be early civilizations, artifacts, related to the human body, religion, or perhaps progress and modernization.

The work of your choice is projected onto a flat surface in the place where you are, and you can use gestures to zoom in or out, rotate it at will, use the virtual restoration function, listen to an explanation or read related information. You can also use a virtual X-ray, which will show you what is hidden inside the artifact. The features you can use vary depending on the item being viewed

You can customize the application almost to your liking - it is possible to switch from augmented reality to 3D model mode, turn off audio, or set download options.
