Several days have passed since this year's WWDC developer conference. If you are a regular reader of our magazine, you will know that we saw the introduction of new operating systems at this conference, namely iOS and iPadOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura and watchOS 9. All of these systems are currently available in developer beta versions and in Of course, the editors test them, just like every year. As for news, most of them are traditionally in the new iOS, but many of them are also found in other systems. The native Messages application has received a very pleasant improvement, where we have received several new functions that have been available from competitors for a long time.

iOS 16: How to delete a sent message

If you use Messages, that is, iMessage, then you have almost certainly found yourself in a situation where you managed to send a message to the wrong contact. While this is not a problem in competing chat apps, as you simply delete the message, it was a problem in Messages. Here, the possibility to delete or modify the sent message was not available until now, which could often cause considerable problems. For this reason, most users in Messages are very careful about where they send sensitive messages. However, in iOS 16, they can now breathe a sigh of relief, as it is possible to delete sent messages here, as follows:

  • First, on your iPhone, you need to move to News.
  • Once you do so, open a specific conversation, where you want to delete the message.
  • Posted by you message, then hold your finger.
  • A small menu will appear, tap on an option Cancel send.

So, using the above procedure, it is possible to delete a sent message in Messages on an iPhone with iOS 16 installed. It should be mentioned that of course only iMessage can be deleted this way, not classic SMS. In addition, the sender has exactly 15 minutes from the time of submission to remove it. If this time is missed, the message cannot be deleted afterwards. A quarter of an hour must certainly be enough for awareness. Finally, it's worth noting that this feature is only really available in iOS 16. So if you send someone a message on an older iOS and delete it yourself, the other party will still see the message - and this also applies to edits. So let's hope that Apple will somehow push this into the public release so that you can always be sure that the message will be removed or fixed, even on older iOS versions.
