You can conveniently use the iMessage service not only on your iPhone, but also on your Mac. As in the case of other operating systems from Apple, iMessage in macOS offers many options to improve and simplify your work. Here are five tips and tricks that you will definitely find useful in this application.

Creating Memoji

Similar to iOS, you can create, edit and use Memoji in iMessage on Mac. First, select the conversation and click the button with the App Store symbol at the bottom of it. Select the Memoji sticker icon, click the three dots in the upper left corner -> New Memoji, and then just follow the on-screen instructions.

Shared content and its management
Newer versions of Apple's operating systems offer, among other things, a function called Shared with you within iMessage. With this feature, you can more easily track and manage the content you share with other users via iMessage. In iMessage settings on your Mac, you can easily control which apps will show content in the Lived With You section. To manage this content, when the Messages app is open, click Message -> Preferences -> Shared with you in the toolbar at the top of your Mac screen. Here you can either activate individual applications, or completely deactivate the Shared with you function by clicking the Disable button.

Keyboard shortcuts

As with many other applications in Apple's operating systems, you can use keyboard shortcuts in iMessage on Mac to simplify and speed up your work. For example, to create a new message, use the keyboard shortcut Cmd + N. If you want to close the Messages application, press the keyboard shortcut Cmd + Q, to open a window with emoji and other symbols, use the key combination Ctrl + Cmd + spacebar. If you want to start checking the spelling and grammar of the message you are sending in the text field (before sending), press Cmd + semicolon (;).

Sharing a profile picture and name

The iMessage app also allows users to share a profile picture and name. It's up to you whether you decide to share this information with everyone or just your contacts. With the Messages app running, click Messages -> Preferences in the toolbar at the top of your Mac screen. Select the General tab, click Set up name and photo sharing, and follow the on-screen instructions. In one of the final steps, you will be presented with a dialog box in which you will automatically click on the drop-down menu in the Share section and specify who you want to share your profile picture and name with.

Working with photos

If you have macOS Monterey installed on your Mac, you can save photos from message attachments much faster and easier than in previous versions. There is now a download icon to the right of the images that you just need to click on. If you have the Shared with you feature activated, you can also easily view shared photos for individual contacts (and of course not just you). To view the populated content, click on the i icon in the circle in the upper right corner of your Mac screen and in the menu that appears, head a little further down to find all the shared content.
