On the motherboard there is a standard laptop SO-DIMM slot for a pair of DDR4 modules, which can be replaced after a short and relatively easy disassembly. Company iFixit today it came with a special kit in which you will find everything you need for the exchange and save even more compared to the offer from Apple.

You can specify the size of the operating memory at your discretion, even directly from Apple. However, the prices for these modifications are insane. The basic 8 GB memory can be expanded to 16 GB with an additional charge of NOK 6, to 400 GB with an additional charge of NOK 32, and to 19 GB with an additional charge of NOK 200. Perhaps only the last one makes sense, as 64 GB DDR44 SO-DIMM modules are still almost unavailable. However, for lower RAM levels, you will always save a significant amount of money if you replace the RAM yourself. And this is exactly where iFixit comes in.
On its website, the American company introduced a special upgrade kit for the Mac Mini, which includes a new operating memory (16 or 32 GB) and, above all, the tools necessary to disassemble the chassis and remove the motherboard from the device. It is primarily a trio of Torx bits with a screwdriver, pliers and other practical tools, thanks to which the Mac Mini can be disassembled relatively easily.
The price for this kit is 165, or $325 depending on RAM size required. The good news for all potential buyers in the Czech Republic is that iFixit also operates its own European trade, where the set will appear soon. Any purchase will thus be cheaper than when buying from the USA.
However, if you have the necessary tools, it will be by far the cheapest if you buy individual RAM modules from one of the domestic sellers. Basic 16 GB modules (2×8) cost a little over 3 thousand, 32 GB modules (2×16) then six to seven thousand. In the first case, you save roughly half compared to an upgrade from Apple, and in the second, more than 60%. If you are going to make such a purchase, make sure you buy the correct type (DDR4), physical size (SO-DIMM) and frequency (2666Mhz).
It is definitely not a short and easy memory replacement and I would not recommend it to the average user.
