With the start of sales of new Apple products, iFixit is on a tear. After the comprehensive disassembly of the 24" iMac, the new Apple TV 4K 2nd generation came to the fore. Even though it is relatively easy to disassemble, repairing the new Siri Remote will not be easy at all. However, the overall repairability score is really high. As we all know, Apple is generally not very user friendly when it comes to fixing their own products. However, Apple TV has never been a problem in this regard, as it is a fairly simple device. Moreover, it has had the same design for more than six years, and the innovations that have taken place inside have been more cosmetic.

After removing the bottom plate, first remove the fan, logic board, heatsink and power supply. You will come across the A12 Bionic processor, which is the same as the iPhone XR and iPhone XS and is one of the biggest innovations. iFixit also discovered that the opaque chassis is actually transparent to infrared light, meaning you don't have to aim the controller precisely at it.

Siri Remote

Compared to the smart box, in which no unpleasant surprises are hidden, disassembling the new Siri Remote was definitely not easy. It is made of an aluminum chassis and rubber controls. It has a microphone for Siri, an IR transmitter, a Lightning connector for charging and uses Bluetooth 5.0 technology.

iFixit first tried to remove its screws on the underside near the Lightning connector, but even then it couldn't get into it. This was due to the fact that the screws are also located under the buttons, which must be removed first. After that, it is already possible to pull the entire interior out of the chassis through the upper part. Fortunately, the 1,52Wh battery is only lightly glued, so it didn't have to be difficult to remove. The repairability score of the 4nd generation Apple TV 2K is actually the same as that of the first, namely 8/10.
