On the Jablíčkára website, we will from time to time recall the history of one of Apple's products. In today's article, we'll take a closer look at the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, with which two relatively important innovations came - the absence of a headphone jack and, in the case of the larger "plus" model, a dual camera with portrait mode.

In the beginning there were speculations

As is often the case with Apple products, the release of the "sevens" was preceded by intense speculation that the new Apple smartphones could get rid of the classic 3,5mm headphone port. A variety of sources predicted water resistance, an ultra-thin bezel-less design with no visible lines of antennas or perhaps the absence of a raised rear camera lens for the future iPhones. Photos and videos also appeared on the Internet, from which it appeared that the "seven" will not be available in a version with 16GB of storage, and that, on the contrary, a 256GB variant will be added. There was also talk about both the absence and redesign of the desktop button.

Performance and specifications

Apple introduced its iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus at the Keynote on September 7, 2016. In terms of design, both models were somewhat similar to their predecessors, the iPhone 6(S) and 6(S) Plus. Both "sevens" really lacked a headphone jack, the classic desktop button was replaced by a button with a haptic response. Although the camera lens did not fully merge with the body of the phone, the chassis around it was raised, so scratches did not occur as often. The iPhone 7 Plus was equipped with a dual camera with the ability to take photos in portrait mode. Along with the new models, Apple also introduced a glossy Jet Black color variant. The removal of the 3,5 mm jack was accompanied by the arrival of a new type of EarPods, which were included in the packaging of all iPhones until recently. It was equipped with an end with a Lightning connector, the package also included a reduction for headphones with a classic 3,5 mm jack connector.

Also new was the IP67 resistance to dust and water, which Apple managed to achieve thanks to the removal of the physical button of the surface and the headphone jack. The iPhone 7 Plus was equipped with a 5,5″ display, the aforementioned dual camera with a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. The diagonal of the iPhone 7 was 4,7", the new iPhones could also boast of stereo speakers, a 4-core A10 Fusion chipset and 2 GB of RAM in the case of the iPhone 7, which offered a bigger "plus". 3 GB of RAM. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were available in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage variants. As for the colors, customers had a choice between black, glossy black, gold, rose gold and silver variants, a little later the (PRODUCT) RED version was also introduced. The iPhone 7 was discontinued in 2019.
