When in early August she disappeared from the YouTube iOS 6 beta, it was clear that Google would have to come up with its own iOS client. And since the sharp start of the new mobile operating system from Apple is unstoppably approaching, a new YouTube application with Google's signature has also appeared in the App Store.

If you don't want to use the YouTube web interface in iOS 6, then this application will be the only option to play your favorite videos, because the current YouTube client, which has been with the iPhone since its inception, will be removed by Apple. However, the advantage for users will be that we will certainly see more updates from Google than from Cupertino, where they did not update YouTube applications at all.

Importantly, the app is still available for free, although it will now not be pre-installed on new devices and will have to be downloaded from the App Store. However, all this was taken into account and it is not a big obstacle. So far, I see this elsewhere - the first version of YouTube from Google lacks native support for the iPad, which the original Apple application had. We will probably see an iPad version in the future, but for now there is only an iPhone version in the App Store.

After launching the new YouTube app, you can, of course, log in to your account just like before. When creating the user interface, Google developers were inspired by Facebook, as the left panel is also a key navigation element, which is gradually covered by other windows.

The panel is divided into three parts. At the top, you'll find a link to your account where you can view your uploaded and favorite videos, history, playlists, and purchases. Only the content of the main feed and search filtering can be selected in the application settings. Adding channels is simple when you click the button next to the selected one Subscribe and the channel will automatically settle in the left panel for quick access. Then only YouTube offers its own categories such as popular videos, music, animals, sports, entertainment, etc.

Compared to the original YouTube application, I like the search method better in the new one. Google used the same search bar as in the Chrome browser, so there is no shortage of autocomplete and also voice search. It's a small thing, but the search is then faster and more accurate. On the contrary, a "forced" and not so pleasing step is the presence of advertisements.

If I talk about watching videos itself, there is nothing important missing in the application. Right in the playback window, you can give the video a thumbs up or down and also add it to the list Watch Later, favourites, playlist or "re-pin" it. The YouTube application also offers the possibility of sharing on social networks (Google+, Twitter, Facebook), sending the video by e-mail, message or copying the link to the clipboard. For each video, there is a traditional overview (title, description, number of views, etc.), in the next panel we see similar videos, and in the third, comments, if available.

Although Google is only at the beginning with its YouTube client, I honestly expect a significant change in the next updates only if support for the iPad is added. I don't expect any major additional moves, and in my opinion the application doesn't even need them. However, it would certainly be handy if the application could also play in the background. But I already think it is better than its predecessor, which was developed by Apple. But that was probably expected. After all, the original one with us has been almost unchanged since 2007.
