The ability to adjust the depth of field after taking a photo was introduced together with the introduction of the new iPhones XS, XS Max and XR. These allow their owners to work with the so-called bokeh effect and subsequently edit a photo taken in Portrait mode directly in the Photos application. However, previous generations of Apple phones with dual cameras do not allow this. However, with the new version of Google Photos, the situation is changing.

Back in October, Google Photos allowed Android users to edit photos taken in portrait mode and change their degree of blur. Owners of iPhones, specifically models with dual fo, have now received the same news. To change the depth of field for photos taken in Portrait mode, just select the area that should be in focus and the remaining imperfections can be fine-tuned using the tools at the bottom of the screen. Google boasted about the news on Twitter.

In addition to the ability to work with the bokeh effect, the update also brings other improvements. The second novelty is Color Pop, a function that leaves the main selected object colored and adjusts the background to black and white. Sometimes it can take a while to get the desired result if you want to have the entire main object in color, but the result is worth it.

Both enhancements – changing depth of field and Color Pop – are available in the latest version Google Photos. Two years ago, you could read that in our article Google offers unlimited photo storage for free. Given the sophisticated options for searching between photos or editing them, it seems almost unbelievable that this situation continues. Google Photos is still free in the basic version, however, as we mentioned in the mentioned article, in the case of Google, users do not pay with money, but with their privacy. However, this does not change anything about the newly introduced functions, which have further expanded the already relatively rich portfolio.
