The creators of Google Maps have recently come up with several new features and improvements for their mobile application. The hottest new feature right now is a feature that allows users to view historical landmarks in Apple Maps. The feature is (for now) available for major capital cities – in other words, you won't find the fountain in the square in the nearest district town on Google Maps, but you'll certainly find it when you're on vacation in Paris.

In the screenshots in the gallery below, we can see that the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, London's Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, or even the Arc de Triomphe in Paris have been shown in Google Maps as part of the historical monuments display function. Historical monuments get their own large icon as part of this function.

It is difficult to say on the basis of which key Google awards the icons - for example, New York's Rockefeller Center has its icon, while other monuments do not. It is also unclear whether the process of marking historical monuments is over or still ongoing. The function of a more prominent display of historical monuments in large cities is intended primarily for tourists to better orient themselves.

The novelty is currently available to owners of mobile devices with Android or Apple devices on which the Google Maps application version 5.29.8 is installed. If you don't have Google Maps installed on your iPhone and would like to try the new feature, you can download the maps for free at App Store.
