Vratislav Holub Apple in its Newsroom has published a new press release in which it addresses the economic impact of the App Store. In it, there is quite essential information, according to which developers invoiced 2020 billion dollars for 643, which represents a 24% increase. The report refers to a study conducted by the company Analysis Group, thanks to which we learn quite interesting information. It was further revealed that the number of so-called smaller developers has grown by 2015% since 40, and globally they now account for 90% of all developers on the platform.

The category of mentioned smaller developers is defined quite simply. These are those who have less than one million downloads across their apps, and whose revenue is below one million dollars (again across all their apps). According to this study, these developers should do great. Over the past 5 years, more than a quarter of them can enjoy at least a 25% increase in their income every year. Even 80% of smaller developers operate globally, i.e. in several countries of the world.
Why has such a study come out now?
Although the apple company presents the study as independent, its results play perfectly into its hands. If you read our magazine regularly, you certainly did not miss the court case between Apple and the gaming giant Epic Games. The court has now spent three weeks discussing how Apple treats developers. In addition, words have already fallen several times from Epic's tent that the Cupertino company is hindering innovation and developers, in popular terms, "throwing sticks under their feet" and setting up a lot of obstacles.
On the contrary, the published study casts a completely different light on Apple. Very briefly, according to these surveys, it can be said that developers under the giant's wings are simply doing well. Executive director Tim Cook himself indirectly paid tribute to the aforementioned developers in a press release. According to him, they are behind the biggest innovations in the application market, and especially now, during the global pandemic, they have shown what amazing things they are actually capable of. However, it should be noted that Apple did not "order" this study on purpose due to ongoing disputes. This year, he released it for the second year in a row.
