While the function of displaying an incoming call from an iPhone is offered by a number of different watches and bracelets, receiving a call has remained an Apple Watch exclusive until now. Now the Fossil Gen 5 smart watch has also come with the function of receiving a call from an iPhone in the latest update of the operating system Wear OS.

Many smart watches and fitness bracelets are compatible with the iPhone. The first swallow was the Pebble watch, but the just-mentioned Fossil watch fared best against the competition. In addition to the variety of functions that Fossil Gen 5 has offered so far, this week the ability to receive a phone call from an iPhone has also been added. Fossil Gen 5 has been – like other wearable electronics equipped with the Wear OS operating system – compatible with the iPhone for many years. As for phone calls from the iPhone, until recently they only offered notifications, requiring users to accept the call directly on their iPhone.

Answering a call on the Fossil Gen 5 works the same way as on the Apple Watch, without having to take the iPhone out of your pocket. In addition, the user can also use the redesigned Phone app to make phone calls on the watch. According to the first reports, everything works without problems. The iPhone "sees" the watch as a Bluetooth headset, and you need to hold the watch as close to your face as possible during a call. This is because the microphone is said to not be able to handle audio as well as the microphone of the Apple Watch.

However, the function of receiving a call from an iPhone is tied to the Gen 5 model, and not generally to the latest update of the operating system Wear OS - the probability that we will see this function in other smart watches or bracelets with this operating system is therefore very small for now.
