As we informed you already yesterday, Apple has slowly launched a movie section in the iTunes Store. Today it can be officially found through the bookmark, there is no need to search for movies manually. In addition, Czech users now have the option of purchasing Apple TV, which works directly with iTunes.
iTunes Store
With the official launch of movies in the App Store, a lot of titles were added that were not yet available yesterday. However, the database is still being filled and should grow to 10 titles, 000 of which should be in HD. There are currently less than 3 pieces of HD movies, so Apple clearly still has a lot of work to do to make the database complete.
The prices of the movies are different at the moment, there are premium movies at €13,99, regular price movies at €9,99 and also cheaper pieces at €7,99 that even have their own category – Movies under €8. Even the prices of movie rentals sometimes differ, for most movies it is €2,99, but in some cases you will pay a euro more, while renting HD movies is also priced at €3,99. The prices seem to be too complicated for Apple, in addition, significantly inflated compared to American prices.
As it was said, the films are only available in their original version without the possibility of a Czech dubbed soundtrack, we will not even get Czech subtitles, only for selected films it is possible to turn on English subtitles.
Apple TV
Finally, the Apple TV, a cheap HDMI accessory from Apple for the television, is also arriving in our region. Apple TV is directly connected to iTunes, so you can watch purchased movies. Apple TV supports the AirPlay protocol, so you can easily stream video and audio from other Apple devices, at the same time you can use AirPlay mirrorring, which brought iOS 5 and transfer the image from iPad or iPhone to the TV screen. Last but not least, there is also the option to watch some streaming video servers such as YouTube or Vimeo.
Thanks to AirPlay, the Apple TV becomes a kind of wireless HDMI connection between the computer and the television, but with certain limitations. Great potential can be obtained by jailbreaking Apple TV and installing the XBMC program, which both expands the range of formats played and also the maximum resolution of the video output. With NAS storage, you can then get a large movie library connected via WiFi. With add-ons by XBMC, you can also easily access the video archive of Czech TV stations.
Apple TV is now available in the Apple Online Store at a price of CZK 2, and it will surely appear in the Czech APR menu soon. In addition to the device, the package also includes a stylish Apple Remote controller in an all-aluminum finish.
Sorry, but this is bullshit "As it was said, the films are only available in their original version without the possibility of a Czech dubbed soundtrack, we won't even get subtitles, Czech or English." search Primo in iTunes for "closed captions" and you will find several movie with subtitles (English) the same is primo on Apple TV.
Thanks for the heads up, fixed
and do you think there is a possibility that Czech films or films with Czech dubbing or subtitles will eventually appear there? :))
I hope so, but it certainly depends on demand :)
In any case, I would be interested in what versions of the film will get there... In other words, what censorship will be used, or what kind of cut will be thrown there...
Certainly not with dubbing, because there are no films with German dubbing in Germany, nor in Austria, etc., so dubbing definitely not. Subtitles maybe in time and Czech films, if so, there will be so many that it's a computer on the fingers of one hand. So let's at least hope for the subtitles.
subtitles would be good :) sometimes the English ones are enough for me and I'm already getting used to it, and the Czech ones would be ideal :)
There are films with dual dubbing in the German stor.
Well if you want to be a detailer then yes there are some movies with ger. dubbing, however, is dominated by Vetsi with Eng. or with the original wording.
If Apple does not have movies with subtitles or preferably dubbed on iTunes Store CZ, then I think that the iTunes Store will not work with movies here at all... as a Czech-speaking citizen, I will definitely not download movies in English and without subtitles :D if I wanted to practice English, so I'll want subtitles for that... and on top of that, pay up to €13 for undubbed movies and without subtitles? No thanks !
This is absolutely expensive, you have to pay two kilos for such an Alien is simply too much. I don't understand who will buy it without subtitles. Many people are not here anymore to be able to watch a movie in English without any problems. In addition, most of what can be found in iTunes is still freely available on the Internet.
I would be very careful with the certain statement that there will never be CZE subs in iTunes CZ. I see it on the next iTunes update, where CZE will simply be added to the language selection. Let's take into account that there is also some Greek. :-D May I ask where the author gets his assurance???
The phrase "We won't even get Czech subtitles..." did not mean that we will never get them, just that we won't get them at the present moment. Well, this turn may sound different than I intended.
:-)
I have to write this to the naysayers about the price: Have you ever been to a movie theater with the whole family, where no one rustled, ate, spoke, they had it in HD, with the option of pausing for a while and it all cost you a ridiculous 4€??? This is not for buying, but for looking. :-)
Thus, digital cinemas in the Czech Republic have films in 2k (2048×1080), some already in 4k. 8k cinemas are also appearing in the world. 720p looks decent on the TV, but 1080p just isn't. That's probably the reason why I won't buy any movies on iTunes yet.
But otherwise I agree. If you spread that amount among all family members, suddenly iTunes seems like a good option. Unfortunately, only for English-proficient individuals. At the same time, one would consider English subtitles as a matter of course.
All I can say for me is – 1080p, English subtitles. Then I will be satisfied and actually in the state where I am today.
:-) Well, I bought it and I can talk about it as a joke. ;-) Bluray is of course better, but otherwise it's the best thing I can currently see on a 50″ plasma. I have played the film several times before the limit has expired and I am well aware of how much a family visit to the multiplex cinema costs me. Don't look at the inflated price of coke and popcorn. I'm just satisfied. :-)
great, I'm excited it's here. I'm buying an Apple TV next week (and for other reasons). However, a discussion comparing the price of a movie theater and a home rental is probably as stupid as comparing the price of a new Ferrari (4 or more miles) and a rental for a day (40 or more). Therefore, compare with a rental company. Renting a BR disk is around 60/- per day. It's 1080p, all bonuses, many language and subtitle versions. But again, you have to find the time (possibly pay the transport fee) to go to the rental office twice.
Hey Hampej, you mean for XBMC? Advise me how to upload it there, is it possible?
Well, I don't have the time and I'm not even willing to. I'd still be sniffed by some peeing person for a scratch on the disc. :-/
I prefer Warez
I am sorry for you. But it is precisely thanks to people like you that we still belong to the Eastern Bloc.
If it doesn't have Czech subtitles and eventually there won't be Czech films, I won't (as expected) even ask...
And Apple is as great as it wants or not. This can really piss me off!
I would like to buy a Czech film via iTunes. And what about the third time filmed American crap...
Hello, I agree with Michal Szydlowski. I don't understand why you are looking for mistakes in things on the forum, and above all, someone is trying to say how expensive Apple is. There isn't. The wife composes music on a Mac and is absolutely thrilled with both the sound quality and the price for which she bought a MacBook Pro and Pro Logic Studio compared to a PC and music composition programs. Apple thinks differently and it can be seen in its products. They are not free, but they are not overpriced. I notice that the value of human work gave birth to a Guild from us, which we want to buy for free and with Mercedes quality and sell for the price of Mercedes with free quality... Thanks. Viva Apple.
Speaking of Apple TV - I have a 1st generation Apple TV (with a 160 GB HDD inside) and with Lion I am not able to upload anything to it. Does anyone have a similar problem or am I doing something wrong? Everything worked in Snow Leopard, but in Lion it just wants to stream everything and it's still unusable (music is playing, photos are a bit slow, videos are a crisis and nothing at all).
@ Michal Szydlowski: The fact that there is no CZECH sound or subtitles in the ATV2G main menu does not mean that we have to wait for an update. Language and subtitles are selected directly with the OPTION key on DO when the movie is playing. Of course, this option is active if the film has multiple sounds or subtitles. Only CC (subtitles for the hard of hearing), erroneously mistaken here for classic SUB subtitles, are activated from the ATV main menu. On other Czech fun-apple websites you can see that even the current ATV2G can do Czech subtitles even with the correct identification in the device! Have a nice day.
It is probably not worth writing about the whole family watching a movie from iTunes and saving time. Be aware that iTunes already offers old titles. You go to the cinema at the time of its premiere. There is constant talk about mass and how the success of the Apps Store is based on price and availability. So I assumed that Movies on iTunes would still be available, but they are not. It's not about always swearing at something, this is just a normal consideration about the price. I'll close by saying that we're talking about clearly unnecessary things and no one is forcing anyone to buy them :-).
Really old? Do you need two months old? This is really funny. Of course, we won't see the premiere there, they go to cinemas, but iTunes is not about premieres. Oat trailers can be watched in the same way as in the cinema.
And how many new items have you already bought or borrowed? Everyone here goes on about how great it is, then goes and downloads the movie from the torrent! I don't see it, but it just seems like a ripoff to me. I used to subscribe to DVDs from Netflix, and I always had a movie at home for a subscription of $20 a month. I could have a total of 5 pieces at once. It was a service I will never forget, that's what I call renting at a reasonable price.
You will be surprised, but I rented a film there as well, which was not yet with us and was not going to the cinemas, or at least I don't know about it.
Steve is right. How many times are films in iTunes earlier than in Czech cinemas, if they even get to them. I've used it a few times too. Although I use American iTunes, the price of renting is almost the same as in the EU. About 5$ for HD.
Try to go through it sometime. iTunes is not a Czech video rental where you have to wait 4-6 months for something after its premiere in the cinema.
I then continue to insist that I can pause the movie, no one is eating into it, no ill-mannered bastards are croaking into it, and I can even make popcorn at home for several times less. :-)
I've been deliberately trying to find movies that have subtitles in the itunes store and so far I've only found one that has multiple European languages. However, Czech is missing. This is a How Do You Know comedy.
It just occurs to me that it probably won't be a big problem to rent a movie and record it and save it instead of watching it... :-) I know it's kind of against Apple's philosophy, but the prices of movies and music seem high to me, and if movies, the purchase price was the amount of the loan, it would be a little better right away.
You can download it directly from Uloz.to
And I, in turn, am happy for the opening of the film section. 10 years after the first usable compression format, we have seen the possibility of legally downloading movies. For the whole 10 years, advertising forced various MP4 players on us, but no one had somehow figured out how to get content into them legally. Only now do we have this option. And I'm happy for her. I really only want to see a lot of movies once so I know what I'm getting into. Those three euros, that's the price of a DVD from a newsagent, which you also watch only once and then put it away somewhere.
