Facebook has been here with us since 2004. In its time, it showed how social networks should look, and all the ones used up until that time began to die at its expense. There was nothing better for connecting with friends online. But times are changing, and we've all been cursing on Facebook lately. But is it right?

Money comes first and we all know it. With the amount of content that Facebook presents us with, we practically have to wade through advertising, paid posts and suggested posts before we get to what really interests us. But everyone has different preferences, and they no longer use the network to find out how their classmate from high school is doing, but rather as a source of information for some channel. Again, this information is wrapped in a lot of surrounding advertising.

There are indeed plenty of alternatives, but each pays extra for the number of users. Facebook had 2020 billion active users in 2,5, making it highly likely that everyone around you has an account on it. I personally know only one person of the same age group who does not have Facebook and never had. But what else to use? Twitter is not for everyone, Instagram is all about visual content, and both networks are also flooded with advertising posts. Then there's Snapchat, which I still don't understand, or maybe Clubhouse. But does anyone actually use it? This big bubble collapsed very quickly, perhaps because all the big "socialites" copied it.

Young people are flocking to TikTok, a platform that may not appeal to everyone, and most see it as a competitor to Instagram rather than Facebook. Recently, the BeReal social network is being heavily criticized, but the question is whether it will be the same case as Clubhouse. But then there is the other side of the coin – do you, me, and who else around know about BeReal? Anyone who is not very interested in modern technologies will certainly not go there to set up an account right away. So why should I go there?

The choice is large, the result is the same

Meta and her Facebook fill the headlines of magazines every day. Either the company is being sued, has settled with someone, has service outages, is stealing data or features, is losing revenue, etc. It is certain that the company has had a big step, which was last year's rebranding, and that hopes for a bright future for the metaverse. But still only a few people know what to imagine under that. Facebook, a synonym for a social network, has thus become one of the most controversial companies today, which gets on the nerves of most people, but most of them still use it anyway - either to promote their work or to consume the content of groups and friends.

So there aren't too many options to get out of it. The big platforms probably won't satisfy you because they offer the same aggressive strategy of ads and sponsored posts, while the new ones suffer from a lack of users. At the same time, it is very difficult to get them, TikTok was actually an exception that confirmed the rule, and it is definitely good that it can warm others up. Then we also have professional LinkedIn, which the common mortal won't use, and maybe the new VERO, but that puts you off right away when it asks for your phone number during registration and completely ignores logging in via Apple.

Even though Facebook has no monopoly, and even though there are many, many alternatives, if you set up an account elsewhere, you'll still stay on Facebook, and you'll eventually come back to it. For its friendlier face, the only thing that can be recommended is to try to personalize it as much as possible, set it up and allow it to present ads according to your interests, otherwise you will be overwhelmed with such garbage that you won't even understand. Although I don't understand why, before permission I had every other post written in spilled tea, and you really don't want that. Do you have a tip for a new social network worth checking out? Let me know in the comments.
