Analytical company Canalys has published its view of how smartphones were sold in the European market in the second quarter of this year. Released data suggests that Apple was far behind expectations when it came to phone sales. The Chinese company Huawei performed similarly poorly, while Samsung and Xiaomi, on the other hand, can be evaluated positively.

According to published data, Apple managed to sell 2 million iPhones in Europe during the second quarter of this year. Year-on-year, this is a decrease of roughly 6,4%, as Apple sold 17 million iPhones in the same period last year. Declining sales also affect the overall market share, which currently stands at around 7,7% (down from 14%).

Similar results were also recorded by the Chinese company Huawei, whose sales also fell year-on-year, by a total of 16%. On the contrary, Huawei's subsidiary company, Xiaomi, is experiencing a literal rocket growth, which recorded a year-on-year increase in sales of an incredible 48%. In practice, this means that Xiaomi sold 2 million smartphones during Q4,3.

Among the large manufacturers on the European continent, Samsung fared best. The latter mainly benefits from a wide range of products (in contrast to the USA, where only the top Galaxy S/Note models are sold). In the second quarter of this year, Samsung managed to sell 18,3 million smartphones, which means a year-on-year increase of almost 20%. The market share also increased significantly, now reaching over 40% and thus reaching its five-year high.

The overall order of manufacturers in the context of sales looks like Samsung dominates first, Huawei second, Apple third, followed by Xiaomi and HMD Global (Nokia).
