There has been a lot of talk about Dropbox in recent weeks, as it is expanding in a significant way and its latest activity is the acquisition of the Loom service. The latter is a fairly popular cloud storage for photos and videos, and Dropbox's intentions are clear here - to strengthen the position and capabilities of its new Carousel application.

Carousel introduced Dropbox last week and his new application is very similar to Loom. Carousel can automatically upload all captured footage from the iPhone to Dropbox, keeping the entire library in the cloud. However, compared to Loom, Carousel was rather stingy in terms of functionality, and that should change now.

Loom will therefore provide the necessary functional improvements for Carousel, while Dropbox will provide the entire project with a perfect infrastructure, as it confirms in its declaration Loom: “We know this is a big deal. I made decisions with all caution. We've been working hard on our product and feel our vision fits perfectly with what Dropbox has with Carousel. (…) We took a long, hard look at whether this was the right move for us, and we realized that Dropbox would solve a lot of our infrastructure issues and the Loom team would finally be able to focus solely on building great features.”

At the moment, Loom also has an iPad app against Carousel, it also works on the web and offers a recording client for OS X. However, it can be expected that all this is waiting for Carousel as well, especially since Dropbox itself has it all. Only now will he be able to use Loom's experience in developing all applications, which, for example, also has a better solution for sharing on social networks.

It is positive for existing Looma users that their free space will also be transferred to Dropbox. In Carousel, they get 5 GB of free space including the bonuses they got through referrals. Anyone who used a paid account will now get the same free space on Dropbox for a year. From Loom, all data will be exported to Carousel, after which the Loom account will be disabled. The service will be available until May 16 this year.
