The iPad and iPhone 4 use the new Micro SIM card format. There are already many instructions on the Internet on how to change a classic SIM to a Micro SIM at home. But someone does not want to risk damaging or destroying the card and prefers to contact their mobile operator. If you are wondering under what conditions you can get a Micro SIM, read on.
We contacted all three mobile operators and asked them a total of four questions:
1) Where can the SIM be exchanged for a Micro SIM?
2) How much will the replacement cost and how often can it be done?
3) Can both cards be used as needed (for example SIM in a regular phone and Micro SIM in an iPad)? Will you supply the adapter?
4) Pad should appear on the Czech market soon. Are you planning special data plans for him?
T-Mobile Czech Republic as
1) There are several options for exchanging the card, but the fastest is exchange in stores (while waiting).
- Online through My T-Mobile, by phone at the T-Mobile Customer Center (4603 from the T-Mobile network) or in person at any T-Mobile Brand Store or at other T-Mobile Business Partners.
- To exchange at the point of sale, you need the password for communication specified on the contract and an ID card (passport for foreigners). Anyone who knows the password can request a replacement - not just the person on whom the contract is maintained.
- To exchange via the T-Mobile Customer Center, you need the communication password specified in the contract. The SIM card will be sent by registered mail to your billing address. As soon as you receive it, call the T-Mobile Customer Center again and ask for an exchange. It is not possible to make a replacement via the Customer Center due to a defect in the SIM card.
- In all cases, you must not have any past due obligations.
2) The replacement of the SIM card is charged in the amount of CZK 480 (including VAT), you can also pay this amount with your T-Mobile bonus points. The exchange price is 960 points. When it comes to replacing a SIM card due to a defect (not caused by the customer) or theft (documented by the protocol), the replacement price is CZK 0. The frequency of exchange for payment is not limited, free exchange (defect, theft, exchange of a non-bank SIM for a bank SIM) is possible only once a year. iPhone customers who activate the new tariff will get a Micro SIM free of charge, existing ones will have to pay for the replacement.
3) Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to purchase a twin card in the regular version - micro. The Micro SIM in a regular phone cannot be used without an adapter, which we will start shipping in the next few days.
4) We are not yet planning a special tariff for iPad.
Vodafone Czech Republic as
1) Every customer who buys an iPhone 4 through any of our sales channels, including the eShop, will automatically receive a free Micro SIM. Changing to a Micro SIM is free with Vodafone, just like changing classic SIMs. Customers can request to exchange a classic SIM for a Micro SIM free of charge both at our stores and on our customer line.
2) See previous answer.
3) We will not supply the adapter.
4) We are continuously innovating data tariffs, for example this July we introduced a new data tariff for smartphones - Internet in mobile to the fullest. As part of the promo offer, customers will pay CZK 177 per month (including VAT) for it until the end of October. After that, it will cost 315 CZK per month (including VAT). With it, users can download unlimited data up to 500 MB per month. The data tariff can be used by all new and existing customers with a tariff or prepaid card.
Telefónica O2 Czech Republic, as
1) The SIM can be exchanged for a Micro SIM only at our branded stores and only while waiting.
2) The exchange is free until further notice, once.
3) Unfortunately, we do not have a solution for this situation at the moment. However, we are working on it.
4) For now, we are not planning any special tariffs for iPad. We believe that customers will choose from our wide portfolio of tariffs or prepaid mobile internet according to their needs.
If for any reason you only need a reverse reduction from Micro SIM to SIM, you can find it, for example, in an online store www.AppleMix.cz, costs CZK 79.
For those data plans:
I know I'm crying over the wrong grave here, but with my 3GS I have the Permanent Connection tariff with VF and luckily I have a permanent discount of 50% (obtained once by buying a 3G iPhone with the activation of that tariff during a certain period) – so the price is CZK 262,50. The FUP is 3GB, and with my relatively active use of the iPhone, it's pretty tight for that month. I managed to exceed the FUP twice and then the iPhone was almost unusable for normal use. There is NO way to overcome this limitation - for no extra charge and there is no higher tariff either. In an extreme emergency, I had to buy another flat rate with a new SIM card before the end of the billing period.
So how much FUP is enough? I have about 300 apps in iTunes and there are basically updates almost every day. I would have absolutely no chance of surviving with some 500MB FUP. It is not unusual for you to download around 100 MB of updates in one day. And on a 3G network it's no problem. When I occasionally download a MacOS update, a new iOS or something similar with this flat rate (already exceptional), the 3 GB FUP is really worth considering. And that's the VF ceiling. You can't go any higher. I sometimes try to solve something on free wifi networks, but it feels like a sock. And there is no danger of building a fixed network with wifi at home, because I am always away somewhere.
Am I the only one who is so unhappy? Is there anything wrong here? If so, someone correct my thinking and put me on the right path. ;-)
Do you already have an iPhone 4? If not, will it? :D
Otherwise, I have fup 100mb per month, what can I say then :D, but I have wifi at home and at school, so that's it.
I don't have one, but I'm thinking about it. I would like the beaten version anyway. However, if I were to get rid of my white 3GS 32GB (about a year and a half old) for a reasonable price, I would go for the black one.
And how much would you like for it? I'm looking for a phone for my girlfriend :)
Oops, I don't know, let me think. How much can you ask for it? :-/
Considering that you want to buy a quad, and I understand that, because I myself would like it as my replacement for the 3GS 16GB, so I think you will ask for something over 10 thousand. Or am I mistaken? ;)
I think an adequate price would be 10k-11k ;)
Well, I think I would be satisfied with 10k. I don't want to make fun of anyone and it would help me to buy a new one. I will probably be sorry that the four was not beaten. :-(
I'm in a similar situation, with 3G it's easily over 3 GB per month, unfortunately O2 started applying FUP to me a month ago, so it's unusable....about 30MB per week, otherwise it will reduce you to gprs/edge.Tech 30mb for a phone like iPhone, it's really a mockery... and they're going to hell...
Well, actually 3g seems like a virtue out of necessity (latency, ip, upload) so I do updates and other data-intensive operations at home or at work via wifi. 3gcko is good for surfing the net and e-mails.
I personally download updates, shop on the iTunes Store, etc. via wi-fi. I use the Internet on my mobile for mail, surfing in Safari, etc., so I think that even 500MB would be enough. I also have a permanent 3% discount on permanent connection from the days of iP 50G. By the way, the way I look at it, Vodafone gives a free micro sim and once a year it is possible to change the sim for free and it doesn't matter for what reason. T-Mobile wants to pay for it? In addition, the crazy 2-year contracts. I am extremely satisfied with Vodafone.
If you have wifi at work and at home, it's a different matter. But when mobile internet is almost your only option, FUP 3 GB is quite limiting for iPhone owners. Unfortunately, VF is not able to offer more. Anyway, thanks for that.
Well, I find the 3G network sufficient for normal use, except for the quality and coverage. Those who are used to Wi-Fi several times faster will not be surprised by this. :-)
As a student, I have to settle for Fup 100mb. Otherwise, I'm planning an iPhone 4, I'll download opera mini to it, which runs amazingly on the iPhone compared to other phones and downloads less data. Otherwise, I have wifi at home, so Safari ;)
I would just like to add that at t-mobile stores they will cut out the microsim with your builder free of charge, it was done yesterday and it works without any problems, they have special pliers for that.
Try to agree on an individual tariff with Vodafone. I know customers who have both FUP and 7GB. I will not guarantee you the mentioned 50% discount, but a higher FUP should not be a problem.
Hmm, that's interesting and I didn't even think of that. In fact, maybe 5 GB of FUP would be enough for me and I would probably be fine. I'm not saying that I wouldn't be able to use more, but with those 3 GB I always have to think carefully about larger updates and basically I'm constantly checking how much data I've already used, I feel how much I still have left and I keep an eye on the date and the number of days until the end of the period. Nothing much.
So I have
So I have an iPhone 4 from the start and I am simply satisfied. I bought it from VF and was offered a micro SIM card reduction for free. I'm just quite disappointed that VF hasn't been able to activate a new SIM card since then. I keep being assured that it will be from the next day. It's been 2 days already.
Iphone from Vodafone arrived on Monday via early order and promise. Somehow they missed the Friday shipments.
I tried to get a micro-sim today. Result? Two O2 stores in Pardubice - not one in stock, try on Wednesday, but there will only be a few.
I was a bit surprised by the fact that right after that I had to go to the bank to download the e-banking application.
The only positive was that T-mobile had a frame to use the micro in another phone. And mushrooms for 70 CZK. They gave it to me and said goodbye!
I have a micro sim card from t-mobile, but I need a 14-digit number to activate it??? there's only 12 on the sim, what's up with that?? pls advice thank you
