After Apple got into a spat with Attorney General William Barr over iPhone privacy, United States President Donald J. Trump joined the fray.

Trump, however, unlike Barr or Apple, did not use the official route, but reacted in a manner typical of himself. He responded to the situation via Twitter, where he commented that the US government is helping Apple all the time, not only in the ongoing trade war with China, but also in many other matters.

“Yet they refuse to unlock phones used by killers, drug dealers and other criminal elements. It's time for them to shoulder the burden and help our great country, NOW!” Trump said, repeating his 2016 campaign slogan at the end of the post.

Apple recently got into a dispute with Attorney General William Barr over a pair of iPhones used by a terrorist at Pensacola Air Force Base in Florida. Barr said Apple was refusing to help with the investigation, essentially thwarting it, but Apple, in its defense, said it provided FBI investigators with all the data they requested, sometimes within hours. However, the company also refused to accede to Barr's request to create a backdoor for government agencies on the iPhone. He adds that any backdoor can be easily discovered and exploited by those against whom it was designed.

Apple also argues that it only learned about the existence of the second iPhone in the past few days. An iPhone 5 and an iPhone 7 were found in the terrorist's possession, with the FBI unable to get into one of the devices even after using specialized software to crack security compatible with older iPhone models, which are both of terrorist Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani's phones.
