When Apple introduced new operating systems at WWDC 2022, it kind of forgot about tvOS and the HomePod smart speaker system. While in the case of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9 and macOS 13, Ventura boasted a number of great news, not once did he even hint at the system behind Apple TV. It was practically the same in the case of the aforementioned HomePod, which was only marginally available. Even so, the new systems bring some news for this device as well. So let's look at them together.

Home hub with support for the Matter standard

One of the biggest news of the entire keynote was the introduction of the redesigned Home application. But in this case, it wasn't so much about that, because the real sensation is hidden behind it - support for the modern Matter standard, which is supposed to bring about a complete revolution in the world of smart homes. Today's smart households suffer from one relatively fundamental shortcoming - they cannot be completely combined skillfully. So if we want to build our own, for example, on HomeKit, we are limited by the fact that we cannot reach for devices without native support of the apple smart home. Matter is supposed to break down these barriers, which is why over 200 technology companies worked on it, including Apple, Amazon, Google, Samsung, TP-Link, Signify (Philips Hue) and others.

Of course, for this reason, it is quite logical that HomePods with the new operating system will receive support for the Matter standard. In that case, they can serve as home centers, after all, in the same way as it was until now. The only difference, however, will be the aforementioned support and a substantially solid openness to other smart homes. The same applies to Apple TVs with the tvOS 16 operating system installed.

HomePod included in beta testing

Apple has now also decided on a rather interesting change. For the very first time in history, the beta version of HomePod Software 16 will look into public testing, which is a rather interesting and unexpected step on the part of the Cupertino giant. Although the developer beta version is not available yet, we already know in advance what we can expect in the coming weeks. This seemingly minor change may also jump-start HomePod software development. As a result, many more apple growers will be able to visit the testing, which will of course bring more data and a higher potential for improvement.
