You may often hear the term sandbox in connection with operating systems. This is actually a space reserved for the application that it cannot leave. Mobile applications are usually run in sandboxes, so they are limited compared to classic desktops.

A sandbox is therefore a security mechanism used to separate running processes. But this "sandbox" can also be an isolated test environment allowing programs to run and files to be opened without affecting other applications or the system itself in any way. This guarantees its safety.

This is, for example, development software that may not behave completely correctly, but at the same time malicious code coming from untrusted sources, typically from third-party developers, will not get out of this reserved space. But the sandbox is also used for malware detection, as it offers an additional layer of protection against security threats such as sneak attacks and exploits that use zero-day vulnerabilities.

A sandbox game

If you then come across a sandbox game, it is usually one in which the player can change the entire game world according to his own ideas, although with certain restrictions - hence the very name sandbox, which in its sense means that you cannot go beyond the given boundaries . It is therefore the same designation, but a very different meaning.
