Currently, we can connect to the Internet in two different ways - wired and wireless. Wireless connection using Wi-Fi is convenient and simple, but on the other hand comes problems with stability and speed, which may be crucial for some users. Therefore, if you want to use the maximum potential of your Internet connection, primarily maximum speed and stability, then it is necessary that you connect with a cable. Unfortunately, within macOS, some applications and games cannot connect to the Internet when using Ethernet, so Wi-Fi must be used. This is a rather extensive problem and you won't find many relevant solutions on the Internet. This article will thus become an exception.

What to do if some apps and games don't connect using Ethernet on your Mac

If you now think that solving this error will be difficult, believe me, the opposite is true. In fact, you only need to disable a single feature in the preferences. Proceed as follows:

  • First, it is necessary that your Mac or MacBook connected to the network with a cable.
  • Once you've done that, tap on in the top left corner icon .
  • This will bring up a drop-down menu, tap on System Preferences…
  • Then, in the new window, find the section Sew, which you tap.
  • In the left menu, now find and tap on box that mediates a cable connection.
    • I personally use a USB-C hub, so my column has a name USB 10/100/1000 LAN.
  • After marking, press the button in the lower right corner Advanced…
  • Another window will appear, in which click on the tab in the top menu Proxy.
  • Once you do so, in the top table activate possibility Automatic proxy detection.
  • Once checked, click on the bottom right OK and then on Use.

After completing the above procedure, it is necessary that you restart your Mac to be sure - the changes may not be completely implemented. After the reboot, any apps that you had trouble connecting to via cable in the past should start working. Among other things, you can verify this by deactivating Wi-Fi hard in the top bar, and then moving to the application or game.
